Is there a french interface for EdX, if not yet, when - knowing UCL is now part of the EdX consortium ?

We have been working on internationalization of the platform but haven't done any specific language localizations yet. That is definitely something we're looking to the community to help us with.

Of course, there is nothing to stop *content* being in any language right now but obviously we want to offer localization of the interface too.

Stay tuned as I'm probably going to put together a separate mailing list for people interested in helping with translations / localization.

thank you James !

How well to you reckon translation is built in the program ? With the other MOOC platform we used and though most of the french interface was ok, we had bit and pieces remaining in english (in mail messages, popup boxes, even the "enroll" button..)

The coverage will ultimately depend on two things: how much we've internationalized the strings and how much those strings have been translated into the target language. As we haven't started any translations yet, the coverage will be 0% just because of the second thing. We have some progress to make on the first thing still, though.

Do you already know the process / softwares that will be used for translation (community based) ?

Thanks,

For what I've seen in the repository it would be using Transifex.com

(in i18n/transifex.py in edx-platform git)

Also, we're looking forward to the i18n and we could help with the spanish translation (or even preparing the templates for the task, with the trans templatetag or what you prefer to use).

Bye,
Andrés

I've set up a separate mailing list for us to discuss i18n and translation.

Please join openedx-translation:

I look forward to talking with you all there!

James
