How to identify the Open Edx version

Hi,

I've been trying to search for this but I didn't find an answer. How can you identify which version of Open Edx has been installed on a particular server?

Hello Ali,

Thank you for your interest in Open edX.

The most authoritative means to identify which version of the software you are running is to see what github hash of the platform is installed. Off the top of my head, on the server do:

cd /edx/app/edxapp/edx-platform

git log

The top most entry in the git log will be the github commit hash that you are running. Unfortunately, this doesn't map nicely to a human readable string, e.g. "Birch". Perhaps someone else on the mailing list can help map github commit hashes to the previous three named releases (Aspen, Birch, and Cypress).

But I still don't know what version it was. The date mentioned above is also prior to the versions stated here:

Thanks for the information. Yes, that is a very old build, definitely pre-Aspen which was the first version that was "named". Unfortunately, your build really doesn't have a formal version associated with it and you are - as such - about 3+ versions behind the current release of Open edX.

We'd certainly recommend you upgrading to the latest version - Cypress - as soon as you are able. Unfortunately, I'm not the right person to help guide you through that process. You might want to try the "Open edX operations" mailing list which has an emphasis on running and maintaining Open edX instances.

I'm facing same issue, I want to know my running Open Edx version, I followed Chri's instruction but I got this error:

edxapp@precise64:~/edx-platform$ cd /edx/app/edxapp/edx-platform/
edxapp@precise64:~/edx-platform$ git log
fatal: Not a git repository (or any parent up to mount point /edx/app/edxapp/edx-platform)
Stopping at filesystem boundary (GIT_DISCOVERY_ACROSS_FILESYSTEM not set).

Any idea please?
