Hi Lidia,

Can you tell me more about what functionality the plugin provides?

We are currently in the process of upgrading our version of TinyMCE. I would recommend putting this project on hold until that is stabilized, but in the meantime, I would like to learn more about how your plugin would help course authors within Studio.

Thanks,
Christina

Hi Christina,

we contact you from WIRIS a suite of math tools for different LMS/CMS.

We are trying to integrate our TinyMCE plugin into edX. We have a running instance of edX and edX Studio however we can't find the right place to add a custom plugin and buttons into TinyMCE.

There are several instances of the editor_template.js file and we're not familiar with the Django system of creating diferent directories…

We have several editor_template.js:

/edx/app/edxapp/edx-platform/common/static/js/vendor/tiny_mce/themes/advanced/editor_template.js

/edx/var/edxapp/staticfiles/05ea675/js/vendor/tiny_mce/themes/advanced/editor_template.js

/edx/var/edxapp/staticfiles/1fe68fa/js/vendor/tiny_mce/themes/advanced/editor_template.js

/edx/var/edxapp/staticfiles/js/vendor/tiny_mce/themes/advanced/editor_template.js

We've been modifying the third one to test, but that /1fe68fa/ in the path looks like a cached file that will disappear anytime.

Besides that there are 4 different tiny_mce/plugins directories, which would be the right one to add our plugin?

For other integrations we've done we always add our plugin using tinyMCE.init. But we are having difficulties finding the definition of the edX TinyMCE toolbar…

We hope you can help us shed some light on this :-)

Thanks,

Lidia San Emeterio Arroyo

WIRIS is a suite of math tools for education.
WIRIS plugin for tinyMCE is mainly used to connect WIRIS editor, a Javascript math editor, with tinyMCE.

It is our understanding that edX uses MathJax to render MathML. WIRIS editor is a easy to use Javascript editor to create MathML.

Just to give an idea about the product quality let me say that WIRIS EDITOR is the default math editor in Blackboard Learn and D2L.
There are also integrations available for Moodle, Sakai or Canvas. wiris.com/solutions
