Easy Action, Skeemin' No Goods and Shaky Jakes tonight at Corktown
Tavern
I'm told that tonight's show at the Corktown Tavern may be the Skeemin
No Goods last ever. Good. Whether that is true or not, the band
doesn't play very often, so I try to see them when I can. Yeah sure
you do... Calling this band a "power trio" would be a severe
understatement. No not really just more "shuck and jive" from the
Seduce/Burns camp. With John Speck (the Fags, Hoarse, Hifi
Handgrenades) on guitar, Chuck Burns (Speedball, Seduce) on drums and
Ron Sakowski (Necros, Easy Action) on bass, the band's sound is
blistering and raw, a la AC/DC or Motorhead. Blah, Blah, Blah... like
every other band Burns is in... ;) the main problem is that the AC/DC
and Motorhead tunes are GOOD where as the Burns Project Dumbocide is
horrible and unmemorable. Dreck.
For every (possible) end, however, there is a new beginning. Same old
shit, different day... Chuck Burns will open tonight's show with his
new band, the Shaky Jakes. Oh really? No Surprise, how many bands can
Burns be in before he learns it ain't workin'...? The band is a
revamped version of the recently-dissolved Universal Temple of Devine
Power. Yes, sure another band, another name with Burns on whatever ego
trip he's high on this week... Guitarist and singer Elliot Moses
recently left UTODP sometime after Winter Blast.
Elliot Moses is the only smart one here as he's smart enough to rid
himself of the Burns "association" and for good reason, Burns is a
plaque on the Detroit rock scene and has been since the late 80's...
he might be ok on drums and mediocre on guitar but a singer he is not
and his ability to spread around his non existent talent is amazing in
and of itself...
Burns who considers himself the "Dave Grohl" of Detroit rock has got
to be the lamest musician in the city. From big haired 80's to "now
i'm a blues master, to oh wait i'm a punk rock or hey hold on I'm a
gospel hard rockin' classic rock type of guy... Burns seems more
content making another band then offering any real substance in the
rock music world and being in Detroit is not helping. People in the
music world have no desire for anything from Detroit but Kid Rock. Mr.
Burns needs to get a clue. Keep your day job at Ford, Chuck.
Elliot Moses has made a wise decision and hopefully his career will
grow now that Burn's is out of the picture. I'm actually rooting for
Mr. Elliot now that's he's come to his senses.
Don't get me started on the lame David Black, who still thinks he's
the best guitarist in Detroit. Sorry David but you're way off... the
years of cocaine abuse has rotted your delusional mind. Your
performance in Crud is proof you're a washed up loser, flash in the
pan, hack. Any 15 year old kid could play guitar in Crud. And you're
still calling yourself the "best". If you're the best, I better inform
Mike Cross (Sponge) or Jim McCarty (Rockets) and Ted Nugent. Let's not
forget the best metal guitarist from the 80's era... Rick Craig
(Halloween). Mr. Black you are played out and tired. Get over
yourself.
Burns took the killer rhythm section of bassist Art McCauley and
drummer Chris Andrews and formed the Shaky Jakes. Yawn... The best
part? THEY CAN RIDE ON ALL THE NAMES IN BURNS PAST, LET ME DO THAT
NOW... SEDUCE, HERESY, UTDP, SKEEMIN' NO GOODS, etc shall I continue
the list of useless and completely forgettable garbage they call
music? They've added Detroit guitar legend David Black of Seduce fame.
WHO WOULD GUESS? Oh brother. Pretty cool. NO, NOT REALLY...
Easy Action will headline tonight's show. NOW EASY ACTION IS STARTING
THIS ASSEMBLY LINE CRAP TOO??? There's no additional information on
the club's Web site, and no one answering the phone there today, but I
would guess that the music starts shortly after 10 p.m. and cover
charge is somewhere between $5 and $10. After 20 years and still
begging for a $5.00 and $10.00 cover charge? How pathetic to know
you're the KING OF MEDIOCRE? Enter one Chuck Burns. ;)
