So I'm chillin outside the Hi-Fi last night, waitin for the Uppertanks
to come on. Outside the Phantasy, 13 cop cars end up pulling up plus
an ambulance. People of color were scattering all over the place. It
was a mob scene for awhile. Then I saw a gurney come out with a body
bag on it.
After talking to an EMS guy, apparently a fight broke out at some rap
show and someone got shot and killed in the place. (not exactly sure
if it was Phantasy or Symposium)
apparently this was the show, sadly enough it was a benefit.

On 2/1 /08 at 2259 hours all patrol officers were sent code three to
11802 Detroit, Phantasy, on a report of a fight inside the bar. On
arrival we could see parties fighting inside the bar from the street.
There were about 150 people in the bar. Some were fighting and other
were trying to leave out the door. We entered the bar and found three
separate groups fighting in the lobby. We identified ourselves as
Lakewood Police Officer and ordered the parties to stop fighting. No
one obeyed or orders to stop. Three of the males were sprayed with OC
spray by PTL BROWN because they refused to release from one another.
The three groups fighting then broke up. Four males were secured in
handcuffs and advised that they were under arrest for disorderly
conduct. CPD was contacted to assist. On their arrival they assisted
with crowd control outside the bar and made sure that all parties left
the area.
While in the lobby, patrons were coming down the stairs and advised
that people were still fighting upstairs. PTL W.McCARTHY, INV DEUCHER,
PTL MOLNAR and I responded upstairs. We observed two more males
fighting. We were able to get them separated and secured in handcuffs.
They were advised that they were under arrest for disorderly conduct.
I spoke to the bar owner and she was identified as OWN/ CATHERINE
DeFRASIA. She stated that she did not know what triggered the
altercation. She stated that tonight's show was for 16-21 year olds.
She was advised that a report would be completed regarding the
incident. She advised that no damage was done to the bar.
The following males that were arrested for disorderly conduct were
identified as follows: ARAI DOMINIQUE BRIDGES, ARAI DAVID COOK, ARA/
BRIAN LIEDTKE, ARAI JOHNATHON DISSELL, ARA/ ANTHONY PFAFF, and ARA/
PRESTON BLANKENSHIP. Squad one arrived on scene for the males that
were sprayed with OC spray. A sudacon wipe was administered to
LIEDTKE, DISSELL and BLANKENSHIP. No one was transported to the
hospital.
LIEDTKE and DISSELL were secured in unit #220 and transported to the
station. PFAFF was secured in unit #213 and transported to the
station. BRIDGES was secured in unit #216 and transported to the
station. BLANKENSHIP was not intoxicated. He was released on citation
at the scene by PTL BROWN and was issued citation #M40833 for
disorderly conduct. COOK had been drinking and was released on scene
by PTL GAMPFER to his brother, OIV/ CHRISTOPHER COOK. While releasing
COOK, BLANKENSHIP'S brother arrived on the scene and subsequently was
arrested for DCI and Resisting Arrest.
At the station, DISSELL, LIEDTKE and PFAFF were released to their
friend OIV/ ALEXANDRA SPENCE. DISSELL was issued citation #M40461 for
disorderly conduct. LIEDTKE was issued citation #M40460 for disorderly
conduct. PFAFF was issued citation #M40589 for disordedy conduct.

an ambulance. People of color were scattering all over the place. It
was a mob scene for awhile. Then I saw a gurney come out with a body
bag on it.
After talking to an EMS guy, apparently a fight broke out at some rap
show and someone got shot and killed in the place. (not exactly sure
if it was Phantasy or Symposium)

decades, was gutted by fire Tuesday night.
Assistant Fire Chief Larry Davalla said the fire started about 7:30 in
The Attic thrift shop in the 11800 block of Detroit Avenue.
Firefighters got the blaze under control by about 8, but not before
the fire spread to other shops in the building, including the
Phantasy.
The club is part of an entertainment complex that also includes The
Symposium Night Club and The Chamber.
No damage estimate was immediately available, however, the 22,500-
square-foot two-story brick building was valued at $62,000 by the
Cuyahoga County auditor.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of the blaze.
The building has been owned by John A. Defrasia since the 1970s. He
had envisioned the place as a theme restaurant and commissioned a
replica of the HMS Bounty to be built of solid oak. When the venue
morphed into a night spot featuring live music, the boat was cut in
half for use by DJs and sound technicians.
In 1980, Defrasia's daughter, Michelle, began to manage the club, the
Symposium and the Chamber. Michelle, who was at the scene Tuesday
night, was unavailable for comment.
The Phantasy became the place to play as major acts, including the
Ramones, the Pogues and the Psychedelic Furs performed there, said
Dave Swanson of Akron.
"That was one of the most popular clubs in the area for part of the
1980s," said Dave Swanson, who played in the Reactions, Death of
Samantha and New Salem Witch Hunters.
It came of age in the early '80s, when up-and-coming local bands such
as Wild Giraffes, Lucky Pierre and the Adults regularly played. By the
mid-'80s, the club and adjacent theater became the nerve center for

Neither venue (Chamber, Phantasy, Symposium) suffered any structural
damage but they did suffer smoke damage and will be closed until
further notice pending cleanup.
Looking forward to the re-opening...The Chamber is my regular Saturday
night haunt.
Forestpkwy, if if were up to your crowd, the Phantasy complex would be
closed down and its owners/promoters jailed for "indecent" and "un-
American" activities (i.e. non-frat-boy/lunkhead friendly
entertainment).

Early Tuesday evening, the Attic thrift shop on Lakewood’s 11000 block
caught fire. The store’s contents were incinerated, but the
neighboring night clubs were not destroyed (contrary to previous
reports from the Plain Dealer).
“Phantasy’s fine,” says Michele De Frasia, who manages of block’s
three clubs. “[Phantasy] Theater is fine. Symposium is fine. Chamber
has some smoke damage, but that’s it.”
De Frasia’s father, John, owns the complex.
Billy Morris rents a storefront between the Phantasy and Symposium
night clubs, all of which are several doors down from the Attic.
Morris toured the entire complex after firefighters left last night.
He says the clubs are physically intact, none of the gear from his
studio was damaged, and the power supply remained uninterrupted during
the episode.
Tuesday morning, printing business PS Graphics on the block was open.
An employee at the neighboring Maria’s restaurant said the businesses
was untouched and planned to open at the usual time this morning.
“The only thing that was gutted was the [Attic] storefront,” says
Morris. [The fire] looked pretty badass. There was smoke everywhere.
But the Phantasy is fine.”
De Frasia says she, employees, and friends will spend the rest of the
week cleaning, then open the Phantasy and Symposium this weekend if
Lakewood inspectors approve. Keep reading for further developments. —

never really left the Phantasy. The new wave posters on the walls
remained; so did the music. The club continued to host Wednesday '80s
nights that returned in vogue with the revival of that decade.

Alternative reliever: Armed with its debut five-song EP, Sister
Morphine - Colleen Brock (vocals), Chris Hinegardner (guitar), Jeff
Ganelli (bass) and Les Horton (drums) - is billed as an unlikely mix
between Social Distortion, Foo Fighters, Disturbed and Tool. "Yeah,
that's pretty accurate," Ganelli said. "That's where we are. And we're
growing. We're growing fast. We're getting a good fanbase, and
everything is moving along really well for the band. I think it's the
sound of the music. There's a lot of heavy metal out there in the
Cleveland area, and our sound is more something that people can sit
and drink and enjoy. It's got a good melody and rhythm to it." With
plans for a full-length debut to be released early next year, the
quartet celebrates its EP with a free release show at 8 p.m. Saturday

Morris toured the entire complex after firefighters left last night.
He says the clubs are physically intact, none of the gear from his
studio was damaged, and the power supply remained uninterrupted during
the episode.
Tuesday morning, printing business PS Graphics on the block was open.
An employee at the neighboring Maria’s restaurant said the businesses
was untouched and planned to open at the usual time this morning.
“The only thing that was gutted was the [Attic] storefront,” says
Morris. [The fire] looked pretty badass. There was smoke everywhere.
But the Phantasy is fine.”
De Frasia says she, employees, and friends will spend the rest of the
week cleaning, then open the Phantasy and Symposium this weekend if
Lakewood inspectors approve. Keep reading for further developments. —

The Phantasy became the place to play as major acts, including the
Ramones, the Pogues and the Psychedelic Furs performed there, said
Dave Swanson of Akron.
"That was one of the most popular clubs in the area for part of the
1980s," said Dave Swanson, who played in the Reactions, Death of
Samantha and New Salem Witch Hunters.
It came of age in the early '80s, when up-and-coming local bands such
as Wild Giraffes, Lucky Pierre and the Adults regularly played. By the
mid-'80s, the club and adjacent theater became the nerve center for
punk and new wave, hosting acts such as Damned, the Pogues, Iggy Pop
and the Jesus and Mary Chain.

clad Goth- and industrial-rockers, who would congregate at the
Chamber, a small dark club.
The '80s came and went and came back in style, but the new wave decade
never really left the Phantasy. The new wave posters on the walls
remained; so did the music. The club continued to host Wednesday '80s
nights that returned in vogue with the revival of that decade.

Alternative reliever: Armed with its debut five-song EP, Sister
Morphine - Colleen Brock (vocals), Chris Hinegardner (guitar), Jeff
Ganelli (bass) and Les Horton (drums) - is billed as an unlikely mix
between Social Distortion, Foo Fighters, Disturbed and Tool. "Yeah,
that's pretty accurate," Ganelli said. "That's where we are. And we're
growing. We're growing fast. We're getting a good fanbase, and
everything is moving along really well for the band. I think it's the
sound of the music. There's a lot of heavy metal out there in the
Cleveland area, and our sound is more something that people can sit
and drink and enjoy. It's got a good melody and rhythm to it." With
plans for a full-length debut to be released early next year, the
quartet celebrates its EP with a free release show at 8 p.m. Saturday
at the Phantasy Nightclub, 11802 Detroit Ave., Lakewood. Call

job managing The Phantasy Theatre and that put him in the position to
make all those connections in the industry. Also, John calls the LP
version with Lash, Zima and DeVito a "great band". Too bad he was too
young to see the original Lucky Pierre with Myself, Guciardo and
DeVito playing bass instead of fumbling around on guitar. He'd really
be impressed. Maybe you guys can send him a few mp3's of the band. But
anyway, an interesting read nonetheless............

Wow, I came back here to see what / if anything new had been posted
and didn't expect all the trash talking at the end.
Get a grip people. I'm sure many of the posts in favor of any
particular band are biased fans. There's no way to stop that, and no
reason to either.
And honestly it doesn't surprise me to see sister morphine getting
accused to "stuffing the ballot box". I just ran a quick count between
what seemed to be the 3 most popular and SM leads in comments by 15 or
so. If any other ends up winning I'm sure they'll get accused of
stuffing, too.

I agree with Joy75!
I can definitely hear this on a Cleveland commercial or playing at the
Browns Stadium/Quicken Loans Arena/Progressive Field to pump up the
fans.
As for Renegade's tune, I like the sound but I couldn't get into the
lyrics. And Drenalin, If not for the subtitles in the video I wouldn't
have been able to tell what they were singing.

Get a grip people. I'm sure many of the posts in favor of any
particular band are biased fans. There's no way to stop that, and no
reason to either.
And honestly it doesn't surprise me to see sister morphine getting
accused to "stuffing the ballot box". I just ran a quick count between
what seemed to be the 3 most popular and SM leads in comments by 15 or
so. If any other ends up winning I'm sure they'll get accused of
stuffing, too.

I agree with Joy75!
I can definitely hear this on a Cleveland commercial or playing at the
Browns Stadium/Quicken Loans Arena/Progressive Field to pump up the
fans.
As for Renegade's tune, I like the sound but I couldn't get into the
lyrics. And Drenalin, If not for the subtitles in the video I wouldn't
have been able to tell what they were singing.
