Simpson was found guilty in October of the September 2007 gunpoint
robbery of a pair of sports memorabilia dealers in a casino hotel
room.<br style="display:none" gauntlet_tokenizer_reserved=""/>

The once revered sporting hero was convicted almost 13 years to the
day after his acquittal of the killings of his former wife, Nicole
Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman.<br style="display:none"

Prior to his sentencing, a visibly shaken Simpson apologized for his
role in the armed confrontation and insisted he was merely trying to
recover stolen family property.<br style="display:none"

Michael Edwards has this report.<br style="display:none"

MICHAEL EDWARDS: Before she handed down the sentence Nevada judge
Jackie Glass told the court that O.J. Simpson's acquittal of the
murders of his former wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald
Goldman had nothing to do with his conviction for armed robbery and
kidnapping.<br style="display:none" gauntlet_tokenizer_reserved=""/>

JACKIE GLASS: When I first started this trial and I talked to jury
when we had the whole panel in I stated to the group that if this was…
if they were here because they wanted to punish Mr Simpson for what
had happened previously then this wasn't the case for them.<br
style="display:none" gauntlet_tokenizer_reserved=""/>

MICHAEL EDWARDS: With that said Judge Glass described the evidence
against O.J. Simpson was overwhelming and sentenced him to a lengthy
jail for his role in a 2007 raid on a Las Vegas hotel room, where and
he five accomplices robbed two sports memorabilia dealers.<br

O.J. Simpson now faces at least the next 15 years behind bars.<br
style="display:none" gauntlet_tokenizer_reserved=""/>

JACKIE GLASS: Count five, the first degree kidnapping with use of a
deadly weapon: a fixed term of 15 year, parole eligibility beginning
after five years with a consecutive 12 to 72. That'll run concurrent
to count four.<br style="display:none" gauntlet_tokenizer_reserved=""/

Count six, the first degree kidnapping with use of deadly weapon: a
fixed term of 15 years with parole eligibility beginning after five
years with a consecutive 12 to 72.<br style="display:none"

MICHAEL EDWARDS: Before he was sentenced O.J. Simpson told the court
he was sorry and that he was only trying to retrieve the memorabilia
which he claimed belonged to his family.<br style="display:none"
gauntlet_tokenizer_reserved=""/>

O.J. SIMPSON: What I came here… I came here for (inaudible), I didn't
come here to reclaim property. I was told it was there.<br
style="display:none" gauntlet_tokenizer_reserved=""/>

MICHAEL EDWARDS: Ronald Goldman's family was in court for the
sentencing. They say O.J. Simpson is guilty of their son's murder in
1994.<br style="display:none" gauntlet_tokenizer_reserved=""/>

Ronald Goldman's father Fred Goldman told the media outside the court
that Simpson deserves to go to prison.<br style="display:none"
gauntlet_tokenizer_reserved=""/>

FRED GOLDMAN: He committed a crime, he did it with guns and he's going
to be where he belongs with others of his kind and he can complain
there.<br style="display:none" gauntlet_tokenizer_reserved=""/>

MICHAEL EDWARDS: Ronald Goldman's sister Kim says her family is proud
that they may have played a role in putting O.J. Simpson behind
bars.<br style="display:none" gauntlet_tokenizer_reserved=""/>

KIM GOLDMAN: We feel very proud of our efforts. We feel very strongly
that because of our pursuit of him for all of these years that it did
drive him to the brink of this.<br style="display:none"
gauntlet_tokenizer_reserved=""/>

He was acting in an arrogant fashion, the same way that he did the
night he killed Ron and Nicole. He said in court he wanted what was
his; he went back to get it the same night that he killed Ron and
Nicole.<br style="display:none" gauntlet_tokenizer_reserved=""/>

I feel very proud of my father and our family for sticking with our
commitment to Ron, to honour his memory and to keep pursuing him.<br
style="display:none" gauntlet_tokenizer_reserved=""/>

The "If I did it" book. I think pushed him right over the edge. I'm
very proud of our efforts for taking that book back and for turning
his words around on him, and today was a good day for our family.<br
