We the People by Ginsberg is a political treatise that could have been written twenty years ago. A clear-cut depiction of today's society, it examines the ramifications of Citizens United v. Federal Trade Commission ruling on free speech and political spending. The book starts out by describing how the members of We the People were selected, and then delves into how the process actually works. Ginsberg then delves deeper into the text to describe the way in which free-speech issues are handled in American society. After a brief overview of the history of the First Amendment, the next section consists of a hypothetical essay, "We the People," in which the reader can experience the workings of a Citizens United case right now. In this section Ginsberg makes clear the grave dangers of Citizens United and then lists some ways in which citizens can stop the erosion of our constitutional freedoms.

In addition to this text being an interesting political treatise, We the People also contains many personal stories from the author's life. Some of these stories provide a humorous look at our elected officials, while others offer a deeply disturbing glimpse into the psyche of modern political leaders. The book ends with an interesting article describing a possible course of action for those who wish to reclaim the power of their representative government. Ginsberg concludes the book by recommending three books that readers should read before they vote in upcoming elections: We the People by Ronald T. Ginsberg, Speech Making, and The Most Dangerous Book: How Politicians Will Choose Your Future.
This text will make many people very angry with our current government. In fact, it has already earned some harsh criticism from members of Congress, who have compared the work of this book to the works of Karl Rove. Still, as we move into the 2021 election season and attempt to form a government that is truly representative of the people, We the People by Ronald T. Ginsberg might prove to be an essential text to help voters make sense of our political system. Indeed, this text has the potential to be one of the most important political books of the year.
