A Pocket Style Manual by Hacker is a guide that covers everything you require for writing on college-level subjects like sociology, psychology, criminal justice, education, business, English, and so forth. This book is designed to serve two purposes: it gives information about the subject of the book, and it gives information about its author, telecommunications professor Dale Hacker. According to the book's webpage, hacker "conducts research on communications systems, including Internet protocols, software, and security; develops new technology; and works on different research projects..." Sounds like a pretty formidable set of credentials, doesn't it? Now let's take a closer look at this manual.
The Pocket Style Manual starts off with an introduction describing the author and his background as a Ph.D. hacker. From there, you'll find out all the interesting bits of information about his various projects, and his overall" Philosophy of College Teaching". You'll find out how he went from being a computer science major to a teaching specialist, how he came up with his "apoC" approach to teaching, and so on. In other words, if you want to learn more about the fascinating world of telecommunications, this book will definitely answer your questions.
Then you'll find out what else this book has to offer. It takes you through a variety of interesting topics, ranging from the legal issues involved with hacking into computer networks to discussing the ethical/cultural issues of using technology in a non-profit way. There's even a short, 20 minute video attached to the end of the book! I'm not sure if it's worth the price, but it's definitely worth looking at as a resource. If you are a telecommunications student, or a teacher who wishes to add some electronic information to your curriculum, this book is a must have.
