The Passion Translation: 8-in-1 Collection by Simmons is a translation of an ancient book written in ancient Greece which discusses the passion and works of philosophers like Plato. As one can expect, a book written in ancient Greece by philosophers who were dead is very difficult to translate - especially one that is as old as the famous Greeks. But this book was able to find its way through the many ancient languages of the world thanks to translator Joseph Bruchac. And thanks to this man, we have the work that was first envisioned by Plato and is now available to us in English thanks to the work of the translators who worked so hard to make it happen.

The translation team did an excellent job translating the book, especially the sections on The Allegory of the Cave. I personally found this part of the translation to be very troubling, as the way that Pliny the Elder responded to the accusations of Socrates' and the Socratic dialogue made me think that Plato knew what he was talking about when he wrote about the Allegory of the Cave. However, I understand people who are not fans of Plato may find this part of the translation problematic due to the fact that there were any number of translators before him who could not get it right. But the majority of the work, while not bad, did leave me wanting for more, and that is always a good thing.

In terms of the story in the book, some might think that the translation was too short, but in truth, the stories were done in chronological order and there were only a few instances where things were left out of chronological order. In my opinion, that makes this translation stand out even more than some of the other translations I have seen. And while I do not understand the Italian, I know many people who speak that language and the book is certainly worth checking out. The Passion Translation will make you think and it will make you want to read the rest of Plato's works just to get your own interpretation of what the original says. This is an excellent addition to the vast library of ancient Greek literature and I recommend it highly to students and scholars alike.
