Hi everyone,
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thanks for a wonderful meeting, where we made real progress on the topics related to educoder sustainability, as well as on many other topics as well.
I think its safe to say that Asilomar has placed itself ifirmly in the ranks of "places we could come back to again". And its also safe to say that everyone in attendance felt optimistic that there WILL be future meetings, as well as more funding opportunities.
As well, we have two new "educoder officers" - elected by some mysterious democracy that only the "techie" group was party to - with Armin Krauss as "tech czar" and Tony Perritano as secretary. So those two will have to come up with their precise job descriptions, and communicate with this mailing list. There was some further discussion and progress on the tech platform for educoder as well - using Git, and (I think?) Google Plus.
There are some very good collections of photos that have been shooting around Google Plus, and I'm not sure how to post those as a link to this list. BUt I suppose someone will help out with that, in reply to this note...
Finally, thanks again for all the effort you put into attending, buying your own tickets up front, making extra efforts for airport travel, and buying your own booze, etc. It helped make sure that we had 27 people in attendance! I hope all of you had an uneventful trip home, with no missed flights or lost bags or anything like that. And I hope the reimbursement process goes smoothly. I believe we are on the hook to "spend out" this grant fund by the end of February, so that should put pressure on the UC Berkeley folks to get your paperwork through their process quickly. And maybe also on you all to get your paperwork submitted (not sure what will happen, actually, if any don't make it before end of Feb - I suppose we will be able to get an extension or something like that).
Please keep using this email list. It is proof of concept, as I'm sure you all understand. And from what we've seen so far, it has been proving itself quite nicely.
Jim
