Dear friends,
Please see below:
I would like to bring our new short term USA summer program ‘Business
Across Cultures’
(
http://www.hamline.edu/students/international/short-term.html ) to your
attention. The program takes place at Hamline University
(
www.hamline.edu ) which is the oldest university in the state of
Minnesota, USA. Hamline ranked 1st in Minnesota, 11th in region in its
category of "America's Best Colleges" For the eleventh consecutive year,
Hamline University remains the top-ranked Minnesota university in its
class in the 2012 rankings of “America’s Best Colleges” by U.S.News &
World Report magazine.
The short - term course explores the world of business in a globalized
setting. It will specifically look at the role that culture plays in the
global business environment of today. How does it show up? How does it
affect business strategies and planning? What are the challenges that
today’s businesses are facing in serving numerous cultures? The course
will look at companies that have successfully and unsuccessfully dealt
with the cultural context in their business. It will explore different
cultural models and theories that attempt to describe and help bridge
the gaps between cultures. This will be achieved through reading texts,
studying current trends and class discussion. Students will also partake
in an additional supplemental English course developed to strengthen
their English skills.
Students will be able to participate in a variety of evening and
weekend activities such as a Mississippi River tour (Mississippi
National River and Recreation Area), Minneapolis Institute of Art,
Minnesota History Center, Mall of America, Minnesota State Capitol
Building, Saint Paul Basilica, Saint Paul Saints Baseball game, Shopping
at Albertville Outlet Mall, Bowling, Lake Calhoun visit, and the Como
Park Zoo & Conservatory. If there is ever inclement weather then other
trips or activities will be substituted. We also have on-campus
activities (BBQ, volleyball, etc.).
I have attached an information sheet with additional information such
as language requirements, fees, etc. Please pass this on to any
potential students who may be interested in this short term summer study
program. If anyone has any questions please feel free to email me.
Kind Regards,
Kevin
