Hi friends -

Has anyone here submitted a proposal for the USSF this summer? A
session on the higher education crisis, and responses to it? Are you
aware of any such proposals?

The deadline is tomorrow for submitting a proposal, and I'm trying to
decide whether to submit one, or in the alternative, to get behind an
existing one.

Hey,

SDS has a March 4th/Education Rights workshop registered, and we plan to ask different students from campuses that had actions to speak on what happened on March 4th as well as plans for moving forward with the struggle. It would be great if we could collaborate with other groups on this - I plan to send out an email soon about developing the workshop, since although we have the proposal in it's still pretty barebones as to the format, groups participating, etc. If anybody would like to get involved, please let me know!

Hi Kati -

I would love to work with you guys on this, rather than submit a separate proposal. Maybe we could talk via phone sometime soon?

The main things I would contribute to the session would be helping to outreach to faculty unions, other campus unions, and to other student organizations to involve them in the session (we were going to call it a "summit" with the idea that it would be a well-facilitated discussion, with an agenda, designed to get people on the same page about what has happened, where the energy has been, and where it can (and should) go). Another element would be to weave in the international end of things - the global wave of protests - that is entering its fourth year now, with plans for another wave in November.

Another element to this - just as background - is to know that at one point - two years ago, at the third DEN retreat (there were two conventions as well, and there've been discussions about doing a third) - a plan was developed for how ---exactly-- to initiate and organize and catalyze a genuine national education strike. The elements of that proposal are not online, but some interesting documents are at:
