We are delighted to announce the Bloomsbury Academic Writing Fellowship will run for a second successive year in partnership with Writers & Artists. The ultimate goal of this industry-standard package of support is for early career scholars to develop their work to a point in which they feel in a position to begin approaching prospective publishers. The Fellowship aligns with our ambition to introduce more help for first-time authors and to recruit new authors from underrepresented groups. We also want to increase publishing with a social mission, using the UN Sustainable Development Goals for inspiration. Hence your proposal will need to align with at least one of the selected UN SDGs or key thematic areas. |

If you have Black African or African Caribbean heritage, are based in the UK, and have an idea you would like to develop into an academic book but are unsure where to start, this Fellowship is for you. We are specifically focusing on Black authors based in the UK, with the aim of expanding the remit so that we can offer it to many more under-represented author groups within core academic fields of study in the future. |

What does the Fellowship offer? |
The recipient of the Fellowship will benefit from invaluable, industry-standard creative support throughout 2025 as they develop their project, with the ultimate aim being that the author is in a position to approach appropriate publishers. The Fellow will also receive £1000 of financial support, £250 worth of books from Bloomsbury Academic, editorial support and mentorship for one year, plus event and networking opportunities. |

Simply submit a short statement (<200 words) about how your work aims to educate and inspire within one or more of the selected UN SDGs or key thematic areas. You must also include a 200-word synopsis of your work, and a 1,000-1,500 word sample extract. But hurry… applications close 16 October 2024. |
