Although there was a few of us, we had a very productive day at the garden yesterday. I was able to assist a couple of Columbia University students who are conducting a study on Sustainability Development and Management in Newark. They spent some time with me at The People's Garden to better understand urban farming and some of the permaculture techniques we apply to the cultivation of The People's Garden.

We planted sunflowers, wild flowers, marigolds, established a butterfly garden, and so many other flowers. But we also planted eggplants, onions, snap peas, black eye peas, beans, tomatoes, cabbage, beets, carrots, sweet peppers, broccoli, cucumbers, strawberries, parsley, mint, rosemary, cilantro, basil, and purslane.

We still have much produce to plant and will resume when we get more soil. If anyone would like to donate soil we'd greatly appreciate it, but please no Miracle-Gro or soil produced by Scotts because they are products of the dangerous biotechnology corporation Monsanto.

Lastly, we'll be building two to three benches for the garden on Thursday morning, April 11, 2013 at The People's Garden, 86 Garside St, Newark, NJ. Carpenter and mason Fat-ah "Frank" Ibrahim will be guiding us through this process. It should take no more than two hours. If you're available and like to learn how to make a bench or just want to lend a helping hand you're more than welcome to join us.

Onward and upward......

“The paradox of education is precisely this: that as one begins to become conscious, one begins to examine the society in which he is being educated.”
