The newly formulated Newark Community Garden Coalition is a coalition of community members and organization, heavily supported by Greater Newark Conservancy whose mission is: “Taking the approach of social entrepreneurship, we are a coalition of gardeners and urban farmers working to enrich the overall quality of life in Newark, New Jersey by developing, supporting, and promoting city gardens, produce farms, and other agricultural space.”

The group eventually will produce farm hubs and open markets throughout the five wards owned and run by community members. These hubs have the potential to create jobs, promote healthy living and collaboration throughout the city to reduce crime. The purpose of this Community Open Market Meet and Greet “Bringing the Human Spirit Together” was to give community members the opportunity to connect and support each other’s endeavors. There was bartering, sharing of information and good old community fellowship. 

The next "Open Market Meet and Greet" is April 13th 11am-4pm at Hawthorne Hawks Healthy Harvest Farm - 428 Hawthorne Ave.
