Position Description
The Kitchen Volunteer Program is a weekly commitment that runs for 15 weeks during the fall semester at P.S. 216 in Gravesend, Brooklyn. Working under the supervision of the Lead Kitchen Teacher, the volunteer assists with daily setup, in-class tidying and preparation, and breakdown in our kitchen classroom! Semester-long volunteers play an essential role in the operation of cooking class at P.S. 216. Many of their responsibilities focus on classroom cleanliness and equipment organization, alongside creating a learning environment that allow students to cook in a well-ordered classroom. Volunteers end the day sharing a tasting with the students who cooked it! Please note this is not a teaching position.
Responsibilities include:
Set up for class: basic food preparation and teaching trays
Classroom maintenance: dishwashing and resetting teaching trays
Breakdown after class: reorganizing washed dishes and cleaning up
Monthly deliveries: receive and stock dry goods and pantry items
Duration
The Kitchen Classroom Volunteer Program is a 15-week unpaid commitment, which takes place Monday through Thursday. Each volunteer picks one day of the week to commit to for the semester. The program begins the week of September 14th and concludes the week of December 21st. There will be a volunteer appreciation potluck on Tuesday, November 24th at 12:30pm!
