Principles of Microeconomics by John Mankiw is an excellent text to add to your macroeconomic class. Case and Fair have been the reliable text that taught students across the country through rich stories, illustrations, and relevant equations for over forty years...and now with a renewed emphasis on excellence in quantitative analysis. In Principles of Microeconomics by John Mankiw, students will study micro-economic processes from all economic sectors, ranging from manufacturing to wholesale and retailing, with the exception of energy. The book highlights six core micro-economic subjects, including consumer price index (CPI), personal consumption expenditure (PCE), business inventory, government spending, output gap, and financial cycle.

The six main case studies in Principles of Microeconomics include real estate, companies, labor, immigration, product markets, and banks. The case studies describe micro decisions and the role of the central bank in affecting those decisions. The primary source for economic data is the Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) series, which is based on surveys of purchasing habits of large groups of people. For this analysis, Mankiw uses the standard deviation of random errors to estimate the changes in company shares over time. Updates are released monthly to keep current on changes in consumer behavior and investment decisions.
The book has many additional features, including a helpful glossary of terms, an extensive definition of economic concepts such as savings, investment, demand, and other macroeconomic concepts, and an examination of selected macroeconomic issues. Additional essays provide further examples and further explanations of various topics, and Mankiw offers his own personal observations and analysis regarding some economic issues. Overall, the book is an excellent general introduction to micro-economic theory and the methods by which it can be tested. Students will gain a solid understanding of the concepts covered in this text, as well as valuable insights into important current issues affecting the economy.
