The Language of Medicine by Chabner BA, MA is a comprehensive text on medical terminology written for doctors, nurses, and others who work in the health care industry. The book is intended to be a quick read, which deals with terms that are specific to medicine rather than broad and general terms used by all health professionals. What I like about this book is that despite its very thorough analysis of various medical terms, it doesn't appear to be too wordy. It is clearly written and the topics covered are clearly presented, so there are no typos or grammar problems.

The Language of Medicine by Chabner BA, MA covers a variety of topics such as terminology in medical journals and records, disease and illness symbols, medical ethics, and even the medical terminology used in courtrooms. It is an excellent primer on the language and its nuances that will serve as a foundation for further studies in the language of medicine. The editors wisely chose not to cover areas that were not directly relevant to medicine. For example, many terms involving the stomach, like duodenal ulcer and duodenum, are not medical jargon, but still necessary terms for doctors to understand. Other topics addressed pertain to pharmacology, statistical language, physiology, anatomy, and even briefly discussing legal issues like negligence.
Despite the fact that there is a lot of information given about every topic, and the book has hundreds of pages of text, there is only a brief introduction regarding formal grammar and usage of English language. The book would be more effective if a glossary of medical terms and a glossary of medical terminologies would have been included, as well as a discussion of how to understand the different styles of writing medical documents. Nevertheless, the main topic of this book is good, and you can learn a lot just from reading it.
