The Wheeler's Dental Anatomy by Nelson DDS MS is a great reference for those who want to learn more about the different parts of the human mouth. This book provides information on the different parts of the mouth, and what they do to help support your oral health. As a family dentist, I have read many books on this topic and have found that this one is very comprehensive, thorough and easy to understand. If you have any questions or concerns about how your oral health is going, you can review the pages that include a Q & A section, or you can contact the author directly. One thing I really like about this book is that the author, Nelson DDS, offers a phone consultation for patients so that he/she may explain any information that is unclear. In addition, DDS offers an online resource with additional information and helpful tips.

While reading this book, I was surprised at some of the things I had never considered before such as the nerves and blood vessels in the mouth, as well as the relationship between the teeth, gums and jawbone. Some things that I learned were that cavities are often not fully repaired until the bone around them has fully grown and that the jawbone supports the upper teeth better than the lower teeth. These are topics that I could not have ever discovered without reading this great book. I highly recommend this to any individual who wants to become a family dentist or to anyone who simply wants to better understand the basics of oral health.
This is a great reference for those who are concerned about their oral health, whether from a preventative perspective, or as a corrective management tool. For the dental care practitioner, this is a quick read with lots of good information that will help you make the right choices. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is serious about improving their dental care. It does require that you have some basic dental skills and knowledge, however. If you take the time to learn what you need to know and put it into practice, you will be able to improve your knowledge of dental care, and have more tools available to you to help your patients have better dental health.
