Great question for thought...How do I create a shared learning
experience or shared learning environment in my classroom on a day to
day basis? If students understand what type of learner they are then
they can take charge of their learning, be successful, and have a
purpose. If I get to understand and know all of the students I have
the better the 45 minutes I have with them will go. Many of my middle
school students have a strong sense of self at their age and might be
making plans about what college to go to or what career they desire
after high school. What I want to know from my students is what
activities can I provide to help them strengthen their views and learn
the content better?
People learn in different ways and from this weeks readings I
have discovered teaching and learning would be more successful if
students could explore and express content in ways that work best for
them. (Tomlinson, 2009) I have pondered asking my students what are
the things you are really interested in learning in tech, if you can
do anything for the next week. What would it be? I am curious to see
what they will say. According to Mr. Murrow, a 3rd grade teacher,
agrees that finding a students learning style and providing tasks/
projects suited to them is an effective way to teach. (Tomlinson
2009).
I need to start with a survey to hand out to each new technology
class I meet with throughout the year. Too be successful with diverse
learners you first need to identify all the different characteristics
and attributes, after all the more you know about them the greater the
chance their needs will be met. (Bray, Brown, Green 2004) Below is a
table of surveys, inventories, and other data-gathering tools that
gave me ideas on what to include in my own survey.
Interest survey, Learning is enhanced when a mode of learning or
approach to learning matches an individual’s learning preference.

particular intelligence or set of intelligences. Gardner proposes
eight or nine intelligences: spatial, linguistic, bodily-kinesthetic,
