Group members have posted a plethora of helpful ideas and resources for using technology to differentiate. One way I will differentiate process involves blogging. Using kidblog.org, http://kidblog.org/home.php, students will post responses to literature. As a result, they will be able to interact with more peers than just in assigned groups. Furthermore, it will help shyer students participate more and the word processing component will help students who may need more assistance with editing their writing.
Currently, I give students a list of alternative book report choices to replace the traditional book report and differentiate product. Some of the options include technology such as creating a brochure about the story’s setting using Microsoft Publisher. However, there are so many new, innovative presentation tools, such as Prezi, http://prezi.com/, and Glogster, http://edu.glogster.com/ that I will definitely show to my students and include them as project options.
Although I use Inspiration webs for vocabulary acquisition and teaching literary elements, there are other technology tools available to present this content in a different format. For example, sites such as Wordle, http://www.wordle.net/, and Tagxedo, http://www.tagxedo.com/, will help students define vocabulary or compare characters in a much more interesting way.
Even though I have to be choosy since there isn’t a lot of technology available at my school, I am looking forward to using many of the wonderful tools provided by my colleagues!
Thanks,
Tara
