Lesson 3 - Educational Technology in the Asia Pacific Region

1. How do Philippine schools compare with schools in progressive
countries in the Asia Pacific region?

2. The plan of the Department of Education is to supply computers to
public elementary and high school at a ratio of 1 school - 1 computer.
How adequate or inadequate do you find this plan considering that the
public school system in the Philippines has an average of 1,000
students in each school?

3. What can be proposed so that the Philippines can cope up with its
neighbors on IT education?

4. Filipinos, including students, are hooked up on cellphone texting.
Is this enough for information skills literacy for our citizens and
youths? Mention the benefits and disadvantages of our texting culture.

1. Philippine schools compare with schools in progressive countries in the Asia Pacific region in terms of educational technology is not really much behind especially when we talk of the private schools. The prominent private schools in Manila like Ateneo and La Salle can compete with the educational technologies in other countries in Asia, because there students learn computers even when they are still in elementary and they have a ratio of one computer for one student or 1:1.
But if we talk about government schools, their is really a big difference because government schools does not have adequate supplies of computers. Most of the public schools especially in high school has a population of more than 1,000 but they are only given 10 computers in their school.

2. The result of this plan is that the computer will be put to the office of the school and only the staff of the school can use it since its only one and it cannot be shared to the students, therefore the students will not learn computers.

3. It should be propose that the students from the public schools especially in high school be supplied with computers with a ratio of 2:1 two persons in one computer might be enough in order for the Philippines to cope up or compete with the Asian neighbors.

4.     Cellphone texting is not enough for information skills literacy for our citizens and youths, but because of it we gain some advantages like for example instead of going to a place to ask some questions of a ceratin person, you need not to do it anymore because you can use your cellphone, just by texting to that person you can have your answer(s). Everything seems so fast because of texting and its affordable even the low class people can use it because its cheap, because of the different offers which the network provides.
The disadvantages of cellphone texting is that the youths were affected so much that their spelling  ability depreciates. And sometimes they keep on texting even during class hours, or they do not have time anymore to study because they are always busy texting. They keep on texting even if its not really important therefore its a waste of money.

1. As far as I know, Philippine schools are 3 steps behind from Asian countries in terms of the educational technology impact & other instructional devices. Although, Philippine schools are not as progressive compare to Asian countries but still integrating educational technology in education and application as much as possible.Just like the prominent private schools and international schools in the Philippines.Historically, in the past, the Phil. was a pioneer in many aspects regarding education in Asia. However, Philippine education is no longer the leader in Asia, and is slipping farther behind from Asian countries is shown by its failure to educate about one third of its elementary- aged problem.

2. This would be inadequate for both teachers & students since they couldn't highly access in using computers. As a result, less students & even teachers doesn't know how to operate computers.

3. One proposal could be is to build or conduct computer programs especially in the public schools.let them encourage through the use of computers & its importance. It should be start from the elementary until they reach in high school. However, the Department of Education should propose at least 2 or more computers would be better in every school.

4.Nowadays, cellphone texting is more convenient since it usually carried with us wherever we are. However, it doesn't enough for information skills literacy among youths & citizens since texting has disadvantages. Cellphone users  are becoming not aware of the spelling. Some benefits of cellphone texting is that more cheaper  even the low class could afford anytime.

Ans: There are good private and public schools all over the
Philippines. all cater to the priveledge elite. education is
supposedly a right in the Philippines but corruption and neglect have
resulted to its decline against other ASEAN neighbors. Because they
always think that our country is being leave by another Asia
countries. So what is Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, East Timor, Nepal,
Pakistan, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Burma, and many more... Are they
rich? So what is the 93% literacy rate in our country that one of the
highest literacy rate in Asia and world.

Ans: The supply of computers to public elementary and high school is
very inadequate to students because we all know that in a public
school, there are many students that will use computers. The learning
will be limited to fewer students and those who cannot use will not
benefit.

Ans: Improving learning outcomes for students using IT to support the
curriculum,
IT to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of educational
administration.
Developing partnership with communities to enhance access to learning
through IT.

Ans: It is not really enough because the benefit of our texting
culture are we can get informations and most especially in times of
emergencies. On the other hand, the disadvantages are sometimes we can
get wrong informations and through our texting culture some of us
forgot some of the spelling and grammar of words.

Ans:Philippine schools compare with schools in progressive countries
in the Asia Pacific region.Judging from my knowledge of the economic
status of the Phil.I would definitely say that they do worse than other

1.Philippine schools compare with schools in progressive countries in
the pacific region is really a big different in terms of advance
technology, not just advance. their government are investing a huge
money for education in their country towards one goal, to be one the
of most powerful country in the world. Philippine is really behind
from a modern civilization due to poverty and because of cu rapt
politics in our country.
2. This plan of the Department of Education will be inadequate,
considering their is only one computer in every school that means
student will not learn. just because that computer will going to be
use by teacher as office work. Add to that their are 1000 students not
all will be given chance to learn from it.
3.It should be propose that the government should make enough budget
for computers to be able to provide a certain computers in every
public schools. in that case our country could cope and compete with
Asian neighbors in the coming days.
4.No, the good advantages of texting is that it help us communicate
even as if we are far from a distant on each other.
disadvantages of texting is that people becoming addicted as a
result of spending money for load even due it does not needed just to
keep on texting. And making words shortcut and forgot the right
spelling of words just to make it easier to text.
