NEWS

--- Popularity of Australia is growing, especially among Asian students

The market volume of educational services in Australia has grown from
5.9 milliard of Australian dollars in 2002 up to 7.5 milliard in 2004
coming fourth now in the economy of Australia. Main takings come from
the university students, however the parents of pre-school children
choose Australia as a place of education for their child in increasing
frequency. In comparison with 22,000 students of state, private and
catholic schools in 2002, the number of students in August of 2005
exceeded 24,000.

To study in Australia they come from Europe, the North and South
America, Africa but the main part of students is from China, South
Korea, Hong Kong and Japan. Three quarters of university students from
Asian countries gave priority to Australian educational institutions
comparing with less that 50% of similar answers in 2002. (According to
"eduABROAD - education in Australia and New Zealand [1]" newsletter's
materials.)

--- Foreign language not in textbooks

On the 'Parta' site an article about the new method of foreign language
learning Out There is published! It's good for people who don't need
academic knowledge of the language so far, and for whom everyday level
is quite enough. The name of the method - Out There - can be translated
as 'out of the class, outside'. The students stay in lecture rooms only
5 hours a week, the rest of time they communicate with people in the
street, in pubs, shops, picture galleries, etc., supervised by a
teacher who accompanies the group over the city. The article says that
after it was applied for three year the method was presented with the
British Council Award for innovations in teaching the English language
as foreign. 'Up to the present more than 2,000 students tested the new
learning method of not only English but also Italian, Spanish and
German. New members join the network of schools teaching in that
method'.
