NEWS

--- In 2005 the number of foreign students in Holland increased by 10%

According to Dutch Justice Department, the number of foreign students
who choose for further education Dutch educational institutions
increased by 10% for last year in comparison with 2004. In 2005
Immigration and Naturalization Department (IND) received near 6,500
applications from foreigners for student's visas while there were 5,924
visas issued last year.

Justice Department published the data last Friday in response to
complains about the Netherlands authorities hampering foreign students'
entry. As International Students Organization (ISO) announced earlier,
it gets many numerous complains concerning difficulties in getting
visa. According to ISO's representatives, it led to reducing by one
third the number of students coming to the Netherlands to study.

Immigration and Naturalization Department, which is a part of Justice
Department, disproved ISO data, mentioning that it became out of date.
>From 2002 till 2004 a reduce in foreign students' inflow was really
registered but it happened because the European Union was widened:
students from 10 new countries do not need a visa. (According to
Eurogates.)

--- British Visa Centers open on May 2

A new visa center where the Russians will have to get visas to the UK
is to be opened in Moscow on May 2. Its address is: Pryamoy pereulok,
12, building 1. Similar centers will be opened in 10 other Russian
cities: St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Rostov-Na-Donu, Voronezh,
Samara, Nizhniy Novgorod, Ufa, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk and
Vladivostok, informs RATA-news.

It's the opinion of the UK ambassador in Russia Antony Brenton that
after introduction of the new system the general amount of visa's
expenses will become absolutely predictable. If before, 70% of the
Russians who applied for visa resorted to services of couriers and
travel agencies who often took a substantial reward for their help,
then now there is a common size of the visa registration fee - 900
roubles in addition to the cost of the visa itself.

We remind that starting from May 2, 2006 British Embassy in Russia
passes organizational and administrative functions of receiving visa
documents to mediators - companies VFS and "Interlink" (Star Travel's
subdivision). That is, now the documents should be applied not directly
to British Embassy and consulates in Russia but through mediating
company's offices - in so-called British visa centers. There employees
will check whether the application forms are filled in correctly,
accept documents and visa duties. The decision to give or to refuse a
visa will still be taken by the visa department employees of British
Embassy in Moscow and the UK consulate general in St. Petersburg and
Yekaterinburg. After solving the visa issue, an applicant could collect
documents in the British visa center.

The fact that British Embassy chose as a mediator a travel company Star
Travel satisfied far not everyone [1]. Other Russian travel operators
regarded it as "a try to monopolize the direction". Learn details of
new British visa centers and what British Embassy thinks concerning
accusations in "monopoly" on the embassy's site [2].

Consulate refers to private persons only. Besides, so far the rule is
not applied to people of other Russian cities. Those applicants, as it
