Educational group "Otkrytyy Mir" - an official representative of
Istituto Europeo di Design in Russia - receives applications for study
starting from September / October 2006 and January / April 2007. There
are scholarships provided up to 50% from the education cost for the
higher and post higher education programs in English in Rome and Milan.

--- Entrants prefer to make arrangements for studying abroad by
themselves
There are results of the vote for arrangement of educational trip
abroad on the "Obuchenie.ru" site. The information can be a bit out of
date but still interesting. The question "Where will you turn to if
decided to go to study abroad" was answered by the majority (66.4%)
that directly to the educational institution. 19.7% of those who voted
would turn to the Russian educational agency. And finally 13.7% of the
respondents would choose a foreign agency. In total 2,834 people took
part in the Internet poll.

--- Now visas to Poland will contain a photo
Starting from April 12 the consular department of Embassy of the
Republic of Poland in Moscow begins printing visas with photos, informs
the "Chemodan" site. Now 3.5 x 4.5 cm photos should be provided in two
copies. The photos are accepted made not later than 6 months ago. A
face on the photos should occupy 70-80% of the picture, it should not
be covered up with hair. Head-dress is not allowed (except for
religious ones). In case an applicant wears glasses the rim should not
cover a single part of the eyes, there should be no catchlights.
Starting from May 1, 2006 the visa applications with photos violating
the above mentioned demands will not be accepted for consideration.

--- Boarding school in Thailand. Why not?
It turned out that Thailand has got not only beaches, massage parlors
and Buddhist temples but also international boarding schools. The
"Inostranez" site posted an article prepared together with the company
"NOU Studying group "Znanie-Center". The agency's employee has been to
Siam where visited Thailand International Education Exhibition and two
schools - Harrow and Bromsgrove that work according to British and
American pattern, only taking into account foreign origin of its
students. That is that education is in English in curricula of the UK
or USA and mainly by teachers from those countries as well. However, if
English is a trouble, additional lessons can solve it. Of course,
Thailand as a studying country is a kind of exotics. Saving money and
the climate speak for it though, as a variant to train for entrance to
a western educational institution.

--- The UK will provide 2 mil. pounds to attract Russian students
The UK government intends in the nearest five years to increase the
number of foreign students studying in British institutions by 100,000
people. In 2006-08 in order to attract students from other countries
and to cooperate in the field of international education, 27 million
pounds sterling will be provided, informs BBC.
Foreign students have become a significant source of income for the UK.
They bring yearly 4 milliard pounds (near 7 milliard dollars) to
British institutions and 10 milliard pounds (1,8 milliard dollars) to
the British economics on the whole. At the same time some analysts fear
that the UK can loose its share of the market because of the serious
competition of other countries. Two new large international educational
projects, about which PM of the country Tony Blaire declared on
Tuesday, are called upon to help the UK strengthen its position as a
leader at the international education market.
Among these projects is the second phase of the PM's initiative in the
framework of which it is planned to attract additionally 100,000
students from other countries, as well as British and Indian initiative
in education and research. British government, British Council,
universities and private companies intend to invest more than 27 mil
pounds (48 mil dollars) in these two projects. In particular, according
to [1] RIA "Novosti", in order to attract Russian students to study in
the UK institutions, Great Britain will give away 2 mil pounds.
Besides, Tony Blaire urged to create more international research
programs, international courses and academic exchanges with foreign
educational institutions.
Now the number of foreign students in the UK is near 300,000 people.
According to some specialists' forecasts, the number can treble by
2020. The income from a student from abroad can multiply by that time
up to 20 milliard pounds (35 milliard dollars) a year.

"Inostranets" newspaper repetitively makes articles in the column
"Education abroad" with assistance of interested persons - educational
agencies. The new issue of "Inostranets" indeed tells about English
language courses in the UK for teachers - what they are in theory [1]
and on personal experience [2] of an English teacher from a Moscow
school who won a contest of Cambridge University publish house. The
third article is a review [3] of summer language camps for
schoolchildren and students in Great Britain, Ireland, Canada, Malta,

--- ESE opens a language boarding school at Malta
This summer the Maltese language school " European School of English "
(ESE [1]) opens a boarding school College Camp for children and
teenagers aged from 10 to 16 who want to learn English and to have a
good rest at the same time. College Camp is a building with its own
closed territory situated between San-Gwen and Naksar. In the left
outhouse there are studying classes, in the right one - students'
dormitory. On the ground floor there are computer classes, dancing and
athletic rooms, a dining hall and premises for DVD watching, plays,
etc. In the first half of the day - from 9:30 a.m. till lunch break -
children study, and from 2:00 p.m. - they have a rest and fun both in
the territory of the boarding school and out of it. For example, they
will have a barbecue in the beach, football, beach volleyball, etc.
College Camp guarantees all students to be under full 24h supervision.
Into the bargain, the fact that College Camp is situated far from
Paceville, a notorious seedy hangout in Malta, is another strong
argument for any parent to choose namely that variant of accommodation.

article which gives a detailed description of Universities of
Hertfordshire and of Worcester. These two young British institutions -
University of Hertfordshire and University of Worcester - have received
the status of universities in 1992 and 2005, respectively. The
