--- The Times UK universities ranking
British newspaper The Times published The Times Good University Guide
2007. The top universities are ranked by 9 criteria: students'
satisfaction; research quality; students and professors ratio;
computers and library equipment; conditions for sports, medicine, law
and carrier services; students' progress; the proportion of graduates;
"graduate" jobs prospects.
The Times top 20 UK universities:
1. Oxford
2. Cambridge
3. Imperial College
4. London School of Economics
5. University College London
6. Loughborough
7. Bristol
8. Warwick
9. Bath
10. Durham
11. Edinburgh
12. Royal Holloway
13. Aston
14. Nottingham
15. York
16. Cardiff
17. King's College London
18. Leicester
18. SOAS
18. St Andrews
The UK top universities also are ranged by subject. The Times site
places the top universities ranking [1] by arts and humanities. It's
interesting that Oxford has been surpassing Cambridge 5 years in a row
in a general ranking despite the latter to be obviously leading in
separate subjects.

--- UNESCO statistics in foreign students
According to the new report - Global Education Digest 2006 - published
by UNESCO Institute for Statistics, the number of mobile students
worldwide in 2004 surged by 41 percent in comparison with 1999 - from
1.75 to 2.5 million. According to the Digest, the most popular
destination is the USA attracting 23 percent of the mobile students,
followed by the United Kingdom (12 percent), Germany (11 percent),
France (10 percent), Australia (7 percent) and Japan (5 percent).
The most mobile in the world are sub-Saharan African students. Though,
these countries just have limited access to domestic universities and
poor quality of instruction. According to UNESCO statistics, on average
one out of every 16 students (5.6 percent) is studying abroad to get
higher education. At the other end of the scale, North American
students prefer to stay at their home country: on average only one out
of every 250 students (0.4 percent) studies oversea in after-school
programs.
Chine sends the greatest number of students abroad - 14 percent of the
global total - primary to the United States, Japan and the United
Kingdom. The Western Europe accounts for 17 percent of the global
total, with 8 percent coming from South and West Asia. As for Russia,
in 2004 34,473 of Russian students study oversea. Out of them, 11,462
went to Germany, 5,532 to the USA, 2,597 to France, 1,878 to the UK.

Sobetsky, who got MBA degree in Melbourne university, gives precious
and not at all out of date pieces of advice - how to choose the
program and to get ready for departure, how to find and rent an

--- About British education
Expert magazine published two big articles "British classes. Part 1,
2". As long as the magazine's journalist had possibility to visit the
UK educational institutions within the framework of the press-tour, the
first [1] part of the material mixes descriptions of British model of
education and nuances of educational system with impressions from the
country, quotes of institutions' representatives and a mini-interview
with Russian students. The second part of the article dwells upon
financing the UK educational institutions and interrelation
education-business. Before we have already announced about two
materials summing up a press-tour to the UK: student's travel notes [2]
on the British Council site and the "Kommersant" correspondent's
article [3].

--- On vacation to get a language
As a continuation [1] of the topic of vacation programs, "Komsomolskaya
Pravda" tells how to use a vacation oversea for speaking practice. One
can enroll to the language courses on resorts.
"They cost just a bit more expensive than the beach and excursion
tours, but at the same time - it's for good". On the other hand, even
an ordinary travelling can be turned out into language training.

--- Football passions
/By Timour Akhmerov/
In front of my house there is one of the numerous Vuerzburg bureaus.
Its distinctive peculiarity is a weird working schedule - they often
start work when I just ponder about going to the university and stop
working probably around 8 p.m. But this Friday at as early as 5 p.m.
the window blinds in the company's office were dead shut...
