Friends:

AID have TWO very interesting project as part of the American Express projects competition. We made a very late entry into the fray, but thanks to your support we are making great progress in the rankings!

If you have not voted yet, we need your precious votes to get these projects into the Top 25! You do not need to be a Amex cardholder to vote! Please act asap!

The innovative projects are:
1. "Children's Library in a Box"
2. "100,000 Girls Cross Adolescence with Confidence"

Both the projects are key contenders for the top spot (Summaries enclosed). We request your support to nominate these projects and make them a reality for up to 400,000 children in India (there is no limit to how many projects you can nominate!). Please use the following links and click on "Nominate this project":

Children's Library in a Box: Project Summary

5000 libraries changing the lives of 300,000 poorest children in remote villages. No buildings! Just a set of boxes with books, science experiments, art, craft & sports kits! Village volunteers keep the boxes in their homes and get children to borrow books and kits. Where children are first generation learners, where their homes have never seen a book before, in those remote villages this simple project will light up the lives of children with books, story cards, games and experiments.

100,000 Girls Cross Adolescence with Confidence: Project Summary
Young girls in India's rural schools are very confused by their body changes and menstrual cycle during adolescence. The project will reach 100,000 adolescent girls in the 12-17 yr age group in 2000 villages and schools in south India. It will educate the girls on their bodies and on health and hygiene issues, and will also build their self confidence. 100 women from rural areas will be trained on health education for adolescent girls. They will be provided with resource kits, flip charts, slide projectors, posters and other tools. Lively discussions and story sessions will be part of the education and confidence building process.
