This one I chose myself. Each year I get information on which
professors are releasing books on campus to see if there is something
that might relate.
I was clear that this was a great match. The title immediately struck
me because Susan Marshall is a "genius award" winner. More
importantly, I know that the way in which Susan creates her work is in
the collaborative process with her dancers. To watch a choreographer
create with a group of dancers is a perfect example of the
collaborative process yielding its greatest results. When the
choreographer and dancers know and trust each other enough to allow
the energy to flow, the results are amazing. That was so clear when I
saw this production in New York. This is a choreographer who knows
and trusts her dancers. While I don't think that every segment of the
work is a home run, the overall effect is inspiring.
So that's why I chose this book for this event.
