Behaviorist Classroom Activities

*** Remember : The teacher has already presented a brief Power point lecture about the Greeks' world views and religion of the Ancient Greeks. Students have some knowledge of the Myths, Polytheism, Gods and Ancient Greek peoples. Additionally, students have already learned about the myths and gods of the Ancient Egyptians.

OBJECTIVE: Students will understand the three of the Ancient Greeks’ religious and world views found in the myth of Persephone.

Three World Views of the Ancient Geeks Reflected in the myth of Persephone

·                     The Greeks view of the natural world: How Seasons are created.

·                     Gods and People Interdependence: Worship, Sacrifice and Offerings

·                     The worlds of Gods and Humans: Mt. Olympus, Earth and the Underworld.

 

I.                    Themes & Textual Memorization

Several central themes were presented in the myth of Persephone that indicated the world view of the Ancient Greeks.

 

a.     Identify within the myth of Persephone the passage that best represents one of the three world views of the Ancient Greeks.

b.      Underline the passage (1-10 lines)

c.      Memorize the 1 to 10 line passage.

d.       Recite it individually to the teacher.

 

II.                  Ancient Greeks, Myth Reading & Answering Questions

The teacher will read the myth of Persephone out loud to the students. Then independently students will answer questions related to the material.

a.      Teacher reads the myth to the students.

b.      Students answers pertinent questions based on the material.

c.       Teacher will grade this activity.

 

III.                Central Themes found in Persephone

After reading Persephone identify the 3 central themes that reflect how the Ancient Greeks viewed their world.

a.      Teacher reads Persephone out loud.

b.      Students fill in the “Central Theme Chart” given by the teacher individually. (seatwork)

c.       Teacher will then grade this activity.
