Iam trying to use npm oxford-dictionary package in react-native, I installed"npm install oxford-dictioary" and run this file as "node app.js" on a terminal and works fine, However, when I tried to use in react native it doesn't work, can anyone help me what's is the problem. Is it possible to use this api at all with just react-native or I would have to build backend with nodejs ?
The package at "node_modules/oxford-dictionary/index.js" attempted to import the Node standard library module "https". It failed because React Native does not include the Node standard library. Read more at -i-use-nodejs-packages-with-expo
It wouldn't be too difficult to re-write these in terms of fetch and make your own helper file. You could even create your own react-native package for the Oxford Dictionary api and publish it to npm.
With regard to accessing the Oxford Dictionary's api, there shouldn't be an issue doing it as it is just network requests. fetch should be able to cope with it. You just won't be able to use the oxford-dictionary npm package to make the requests.
I don't remember which spelling I was told, but always use install. I recently discovered the expression a new instalment and my dictionary indicates the spelling installment in the US, which led me to check whether instal also exists. Surprisingly to me install and instal are listed equivalent and without reference to a specific country.
I would concur with Maulik V that "instal" is the British variant for the American "install", just as "instalment", "instil" and "fulfil" are the British variants for the American "installment", "instill", and "fulfill" (as defined by the Reader's Digest's UNIVERSAL DICTIONARY).
During a Windows installation, you have the ability to choose a custom install. By doing this, you are able to choose both the different menu languages from a large list, and choose various dictionaries to be included in that installation. If you do not choose a custom installation, LibreOffice will install a set of dictionaries by default.
Once you find the dictionary, or dictionaries, you wish to add to your installation of LibreOffice, they you can install these .oxt files through the LibreOffice Extension Manager. To get to this Extension Manager, click on the Tools menu option and then the Extension Manager option in the bottom section of that menu option list. At this point, you click on the "Add button" and browse through your computer's drive system. At that point, you click on the .oxt extension file [be it a dictionary, template, gallery, or other .oxt file] and click on the "Open button". Then you follow the automated steps to complete the installation of the .oxt extension.
Also, within the Extension Manager, you have the ability to enable and disable and non-locked extension list there. If you decide to stop using an installed dictionary, you can disable it instead of removing it from your LibreOffice installation. This makes it easier to switch between different dictionaries of the same language, but a different variant. There are several languages that have multiple possible dictionaries to use. There are 20 Spanish dictionaries localized by country. You can then install one for Spain, Mexico, Peru, Panama, and Venezuela, and choose which version of Spanish to use while working on your Spanish language document. All you have to do is disable all of the different Spanish dictionaries except the one you want to use for that document.
I have now successfully installed 4.1.1. But still it has no English (India) language option installed. I can see it in the list of directories -
Tools > Options > Writing Aids > Available Language Modules > Hunspell spellchecker > edit > "no option for English (India)
And down under the same tab of writing aids under the heading user difined dictionaries if I try to add new one, in the list I can see English (India) as Option but it is not marked. In other words its of no use. it will not correct my spellings like English (Uk) or (US) can.
The en-GB language pack for v4.1.2.1, in DEB format, for the x86-64 architecture, can be found here. If that is not the particular one you require, just navigate your way back up the directory tree and down again to the one suitable for your installation.
I did not mean to imply the languages are the same (as in the real world there are evidently differences). I meant to indicate in both my answer and comment that LO uses the UK dictionary for the IN locale, so in LO the dictionaries are the same. If you open up the en-GB language pack (libreoffice4.0-dict-en... DEB file) you will not find an en-IN .dic file, but you will find the en-GB .dic is being used for these locales: en-GB en-BS en-BZ en-GH en-IE en-IN en-JM en-NZ en-TT.
I downloaded and tried to install the english dictionary of Marco via the Extension Manager. It appears to install and if I try to add the dictionary twice it ask for overwrite, but it only gets installed locally, never asking if i want to install it for all users, and then restart the program as asked to find that it is not installed at all. How can I solve this problem and install any language dictionary?. (Currently using Manjaro, Im a bit newbie with this OS but worked before in other Linux without this issue)
I noticed that the package contains a file called, "license.txt", which bears the text of the GNU General Public License, Version 2. Does that mean that this entire extension is licensed under GPL V2? Or does the GPL only apply to part(s) of the extension, and if so, what part(s)?
Looked where you suggested, all Language options set to English(USA). Writing Aids, the new extensions don't show. Tried New, looks like it only allows one to name a new/empty dictionary. Also looked under all the selections on the tools/languages bar and all text, paragraph, and section) are also all set to English(USA).
One forum talked about moving around directories, renaming them, etc. But under the directory below I did find a "dictionaries" file containing html code (but prefer not to start experimenting here). C:\Users\David\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice\4\user\uno_packages\cache\registry\com.sun.star.comp.deployment.configuration.PackageRegistryBackend\sv1nn5sy.tmp
Thanks, this confirms where I thought the entry should be. Currently all the options are checked. For dictionaries, there's Standard (all), business (all), soffice (all) and IgnoreAllList (all) . Nothing appears to reference the new dictionary extension. Editing the IgnoreAllList shows the language as All, and not sure how to use the entries on the New button. Do I need to add an entry or change something? Help much appreciated.
Perhaps it's right in front of me, but I loaded it, it shows up in the Extension Manager, but I can't find a button or toolbar entry, even under tools/language. Any help much appreciated. Thanks, David
I cannot install the latest english spelling dictionary. I get this error message every time for the last year or so, any ideas please?
"Failed to read key element in backenddb.xml"
I also get a path to find the file but not proficient to do anything with it once found!!
I am on Windows 10 and Open office is otherwise up to date.
I have been using Oppen Office for a long time, and I am very grateful to all who designate their time and talent to make it possible!
I couldn't afford anything but this free program, and I couldn't even image what I would do without it. It is one of the best generous gifts one can give. Thank you! Wish you all long life with happiness and joy!
Spellcheck has never worked for me. I have set it for English-New Zealand. Whenever I make a mistake the error is not underlined, and when I try to perform a spellcheck across the document, it tells me the check is complete and no errors were found. What am I doing wrong, and what do I need to do to put things right?
I had the same problem with the "C:\long file path\blah blah\ does not exist" error message, basically had to create the last couple of folders in the path, paste the downloaded file into place and also change the name of the file to just "dict-en" to get the Extension Manager to work. Refer to the comment on page 2 below from "Anonymous" on 10 Sep 2014 for step-by step instructions, but now also add the bit about changing the filename.
I had no choice but to find a way to do this, because my AOO had suddenly "lost" the spellcheck dictionary so that every single word was failing the spellcheck. But obviously lots and lots of people must be simply giving up the task because of this "does not exist" issue. Does anyone know whether it's a problem with Extension Manager, with this specific extension, or with the horrendous Windows 10?
I'm really grateful for this open-source software and all the effort people put into it, it's amazing, but please please, on behalf of all the ordinary people out there just like me who have been driving themselves crazy trying to install this extension and hitting the same problem SINCE 2014 at least!, couldn't one of you clever software types fix this?
I've found the best way to do this, is to DL the one you want; then, with Openoffice _closed_ double click on the extension. That will ask you what you want to open the software with. Select Open Office.
Thank you! I just sent you a donation. I am an older person with 37 years experience with computers, and I cannot afford Microsoft products - but I also refuse to feed into that empire anyhow. Thank you for all you do and all the hours and years of work involved. Hard to tell you how much I appreciate having this great piece of software. Bravo and thank you all.
I think you are doing a terrific job, and as a poor widow, I am most grateful for your efforts. My biggest asset is this computer and it means the world to me. Thank you so much. I think you are wonderful. Sarah Mages
Moreover, there is no way to remove the update alert in the Open Office when you use it. I have installed this, and DO want to keep it, but I do NOT want to update it every couple of months and I certainly do not want the alert to flash in my programme once it is open.
