Somy kids have sub-accounts on the Oculus, no big surprise there (supposedly family device and all), but when their friends come over they want to watch each other play. I've tried for over an hour yesterday doing everything to pair the Oculus to my kids phones so they can cast respectively, unfortunately it didn't work, so the Oculus just ended up sitting in the corner of the room collecting dust.
I did contact support and they told me to factory reset the Oculus from the kids phone. I tried explaining first we have to be able to pair the phone, but support was pretty insistent also sending me an email today saying the same and if it doesn't work from my kids phone to factory reset it from my phone. But I just don't see how that can solve the problem...
Hi Kelath, just want to say this is not the experience we would like you to have and hopefully we can clear things up for you. Even though you can have multiple accounts on the device for app sharing, you are only able to pair it with the main account. All other accounts will not be able to pair to the device, therefore they will not be able to cast. Your only option would be to sign into the main account on your kid's cell as well when you want to cast from their phone. We hope this has helped, but let us know if you have any other questions!
I have the same issue here and I want to say that the "fix" you offer isn't sufficient. This isn't a workable solution because no one wants to crowd around a tiny phone screen to watch someone play. There should be a way to pair each profile to the device so we can cast to the GoogleTV just like I can cast when I'm using the headset under my profile. Why wouldn't this be an option? It doesn't make sense to allow FOUR profiles but only allow one to cast to a TV. Please fix ASAP.
When it comes to secondary accounts, it should be the other way around. You wouldn't be able to cast to a phone since pairing isn't available, but should be able to cast to a computer, or any other casting method.
I bought a Google TV so I could cast and it works for my profile (the main one that is paired) when I'm logged into the app using that account, but I'm not able to cast when my kids are playing on their profile (the app just says "searching for device"). If I log onto the app with one of their profiles, it asks me to pair the device using a pairing code, but when I try to do that, it says the device is already paired to a profile.
The only way I know how to cast is to use the app. Is there a way to cast to our smart TV or Google TV not using the cast feature in the app? The TV, Google TV, and device (Meta Quest 2) are all on the same network.
If that doesn't work, they might have patched it out unfortunately. I'd recommend posting this in our ideas section though since it's where our engineers look for features to bring out later on.
Hey there, @dbgolf0! We know how important it is to keep on eye an what your kids are playing in VR, and we would be more than happy to help you with this issue! If you haven't already, we recommend trying these troubleshooting tips:
Having trouble with a Facebook or Instagram account? The best place to go for help with those accounts is the Facebook Help Center or the Instagram Help Center. This community can't help with those accounts.
So my wife and I both have oculus accounts, one for a Rift and one for a Quest 2. We have both users logged into the Quest 2 successfully using the new multi-user feature. However, there's a couple issues with casting.
#1 - When my wife's account (the admin) is logged into the Quest 2, we can successfully cast to the Oculus App on a phone **only if it is logged in as her account**. Ideally we could also cast to a phone logged in as my account. Is this possible?
#2 - When my account (non-admin) is logged into the Quest 2, it appears that casting doesn't work at all. No devices show up at all (not even "Share with computer") when going to the Share -> Cast option in Quest 2. Is this a purposeful limitation of multi-user on the same device?
2, Oculus app should tell you that you are because you need it to be paired in order for it to work. Then the top-left most weird looking circle/icon is the Cast button. If you goto devices in Oculus app it will tell you if you are connected, if so, you are paired.
This is way overdue being updated/fixed. It's no fun not being able to see what others are actually doing/playing. We just end up sitting there bored while they play until it's the next person's turn.
Found somewhat of a solution for this. We have two Quest 2 headsets with myself as admin on both, guest/sharing on the other. We are able to cast BOTH headsets to different devices, (one on computer screen, 2nd on smart TV) To do this, I first cast the COMPUTER to the smart tv using it as a 2nd monitor (on Windows 10 you push the Window key and the "P" key together and walk through the steps to connect to TV, choosing the option to 'extend' your screen to the TV, just like having a dual monitor setup for gaming or office work) Once you have successfully set your TV as a 2nd monitor, on the PC log into your facebook as the admin account for the Quests, then open the page to cast from your headset to computer (
www.oculus.com/casting) and cast your main headset to that page. Now, open an INCOGNITO browser page, open and log into your GUEST facebook account that you used to set up the guest user on the 2nd headset, then go to the casting page in another INCOGNITO tab on that same window, and cast the 2nd, GUEST headset to that page!! Now that you have both headsets casting to their own page, simply push one of the browser pages to the second monitor by dragging and dropping the selected browser page off the screen to the 2nd monitor! It seems technical, but once you've accomplished it the first time, its quite easy, if a bit of a long way around. It seems like it may work with two phones the same way, but you would have to have the Oculus app on both phones, and have the 2nd one logged into the guest account. Have not tried this, as we have always just cast both the the computer and pushed one to our bigger TV. Best of luck!!
Same problem here with the Oculus quest 2. Casting should be possible for any account. My girlfriend has primary account and I made a secondary account. She can cast and I can enjoy while she plays but when I play the lack of casting completely excludes her. This really needs to be added for any account on the Oculus quest 2.
I totally agree, nothing ever works as well or as easily as the instructions say. I really wish they would have thought some of these things out, we spend more time being frustrated trying figure out things than actually using the headsets.
One of the features of Oculus Quest is the ability to cast what the user is seeing in VR to another device like a phone or a TV via Google Chromecast. I want to add this to another TV in my house and am trying to decide between upgrading my old Roku to the Roku Ultra or buying a new Google Chromecast.
Screen Mirror is done from the control screen, swipe up from the main screen (you'll see things like your flash light etc...), there are two overlapping windows/screens, that button is the screen mirror. It will bring up a list of available devices. You should see your roku device there. Make its setup from your roku, it's under settings-->Apple Airplay and Homekit--> Make sure airplay is on. I setup mine to require a one time code. As long as that is setup it will broadcast your iphone screen to the tv. From their launch the Oculus app and cast there. Bingo!!! It sounds like more than it is. It's really easy.
HI @Jason_David, I have a quest 2 at home and I have had my own issues with casting straight from the quest. The way I work around it is casting to my ipad using the Oculus app (you do have to sign in with your account that you are using for the Quest). I then connect a HDMI cable to my ipad and plug it to my tv. Do you think this will work. It may have bad resolution though.
