I went to Boston Pizza today and tried their gluten free pizza which
was a nice change. There is still little knowledge about GF but they
brought me the allergy manual. The manual only lists wheat free not
gluten free items. Also items that are fried were listed as wheat
free.

BP seems to have made a corporate commitment to our safety:

I tried it today too. After reading about the way they handle allergens and the specific requirements made in terms of ingredients and preparation I felt fairly comfortable ordering the pizza. Apparently when the order is entered it is printed in the kitchen with specific requirements for prep as well. So they may not completely get it, but my impression of the process is that it is pretty good and doesn't completely depend on full understanding of celiac specifically.
Anyway, I didn't react and I am fairly sensitive and I generally avoid eating out. My entire GF family of 7 were able to have pizza for about $70 with tip. I still dream of being able to order full sized pizzas for our whole family but I'm pretty excited that I can actually eat pizza that I didn't have to make myself!
All the best,
Kirsten

That is great news, Kirsten and $70 is not too bad! Do I understand correctly that all 7 in your family are celiacs? If so, that is a record in my books!

Hi Ellen,
$70 is a bargain! :) They aren't all diagnosed, but my dad, my sister, my brother and I are (so that's 4 -- my youngest brother had a negative blood test but definite symptoms, he's waiting on a biopsy). My mom and my husband have discovered they are quite gluten sensitive despite negative tests. Given the genetics, I keep my 5 kids off of it and we've been a lot healthier since (a lot fewer infections etc). I don't worry as much with the kids re: cross-contamination. They all were breastfed for years so I don't expect any major symptoms for them until later in adulthood (which is what happened with my siblings and I as well). At this point I figure I'm buying them time and making my home a lot safer for me. The kids just know we are all GF so it's not usually an issue. We homeschool so that helps too. It's only been 2+ years but it seems like forever for them. I think it helps that it's all of us and their grandparents and aunt and uncle too.
