Glutamate (MSG) is allowed but yet in the new Pocket Dictionary it
says to ?Check. Can anyone explain this to me.

About all I could tell you is what is written under the heading MSG in the
new Pocket Dictionary.
The change in heading will be a result of new information, or new practices
in the market place, coming into effect in the seven years between the the
two books. The CCA continues to try to give the most up-to-date information
available.
This may not be very satisfactory but it is the best I can do.
