One team in 30 couldn't hear the "for high prioirty people only". When they
heard that they thought.."I'm a hockey player" they must mean me...cause
it's all about me me me 24/7. Only Hitler had a higher ego than some
hockey players.

Just read the story in the online Globe and Mail.

The turkey who let the Flames go to the front of the line just got
fired.

Firing the guy was an over reaction.

Sure, fast tracking the Flames was poor judgement, and
probably worthy of some kind of disciplinary action.

But firing was just an attempt by the powers that be to look
good in the media.

It was an attempt but doesn't seemed to have worked, perhaps Albertans are
not as gullible as the Conservatives would like to think.

AHS and the Government have made a total cluster fuck of the whole pandemic.

That's putting it mildly. There is NO excuse for mass clinics in 2009. One
should be able to BOOK a time, either by going on line
or by phoning a central number. One's Alberta Health number could be the
identifier. One, then, should be able to PRE-register on line or on the
phone. That way, time at the clinic would be a lot shorter and line-ups
would be almost totally eliminated.

I'm kind of getting the impression we are dealing with
leaders who are more interested in image than they are in
results.

Anyway, as Canuck57 suggested in another post, I'm guessing
the powers that be didn't have to wait in line for three and
a half hours to get their flu shots.

There is merit to that suggestion.

If Dynalife (formerly Dynacare Kasper) can let you book a
time to come in, let them take a few tubes of blood and a
urine sample, I'm sure a system could be set up to allow
people to book a time for a flu shot.

They could still accept walk in flu shots, but if they are
running behind, people who haven't booked a time slot would
wait until they get caught up.

If you have booked your appointment, as long as you arrive
on time, you'd know you would get your shot within fifteen
minutes of your booked time. That is, if you are booked for
1:15, you will get your shot sometime between 1:15 and 1:30.

People in high risk groups could allow Alberta Health and
Wellness and Alberta Health Services to use their medical
information to fast track them or give them priority for
available time slots. It could be set up as a voluntary
program.

Sharx, I don't deny the people who fast tracked the Flames
showed some poor judgement.

But I don't believe the error in judgement put anybody's
life or health at risk in way that most people would
consider unacceptable.

Hence, the matter should have been handled internally with a
formal reprimand for the persons involved.

Firing them was extremely punitive, and keeping in mind the
punishment should fit the crime, the punishment that was
meted out was much harsher than the crime warranted.

I agree it's "fucking dumb".

That said, firing the people who made the decisions isn't,
IMO, an appropriate response. It's heavy handed and
excessive.

That must have been the year we made it to the finals and were doing well --
that is, until Rollie got hurt, and the team crashed. The Oilers haven't
been the same since...

Now that you've brought it to my attention, I vaguely remember something
being said about the Sharks having more Canuks than Edmonton.

This year, we've got our home-town boy, Comrie, back again, and he's doing
pretty good, so maybe we'll have something to cheer about.

Getting to see them win is a different question entirely.

The only reason they aren't bottom of the league is the
Carolina Hurricanes have that honour right now.

Toronto and the 'Canes are the only two teams in the league
that still have single digit point totals in the NHL
standings.

They're a little overdue for a win, aren't they?

I remember that. The name of the other goalie slips my
mind, but when the Oilers had to substitute him for Rollie,
I thought, "We're in trouble now."

If they Oilers are going to make the playoffs, they are
going to have to get out of that slump they are in right
now.

Once this booking system is in place, it could also be used for future
pandemics plus the annual fall flu shots. Oh, the locations might change,
dates certainly would but those are variables that can easily be altered to
fit the circumstances.

No, it is not. It sends a message, a sound message of accountability. The
important thing is that the fired person, being fired for cause, gets
absolutely NO payout, NO PERKS.

I'd have sacked more than just the senior official with NO PAYOUT or perks,
either. I'd have signed the dismissal letter then slept well, with NO second
thoughts.

I'm pretty sure it was '06, when the Oilers were playing the Hurricanes, and
Ty Conklin (an American) was backup.

I have a good feeling about the Oilers this year. The talent mix is good,
and there's some good coaches in the pool, too.

It'll take some work to get everybody on the same page. But, when it
happens, they're going to put a few good streaks together...

Take Care,
Dudley

That's the goalie whose name I was trying to remember in
another follow up post.

I think the thing that is causing the slump right now is the
number of players who have been sidelined with the flu.

As soon as the team has its players back, they'll improve
markedly and very quickly.

Agreed.
