Right On!
Hate to not be able to see the boys playing when I am in the hospital close
to joining the other 12 H1N1 victims.
I mean, really. Its the flu, people. We live in a country with 1000 flu
strains, and this is just like all the rest except it is grabbing all the
press.
And based on Morris' posts on this subject, he is worthy of about as much
consideration as that imbicilic left-wing Liberal poster who reposts every
Toronto Star article on here. Ok, maybe more consideration that Peepers,
but only marginally.
Where did you hear this from?

FOr fuck's sake, it's been on the news all day.
Fine. Keep supporting million dollar subsidies to PRIVATE CORPORATIONS so
that the wealthy can continue to buy their very expensive season tickets to
the Spoilers and the Shames. I say it again: NOT ONE CENT of public money
for anything to do with multimillionaire/billionaire owners of hockey clubs.
How is this in any way a reflection on the Flames' organization? The shot
was available to everybody, without any gameplan, when they got theirs. It
was arranged by our Provincial health brainstorms to be done in a private
clinic as most celebrity events are so that there would not be public
commotion as 22 players stood in a line at some public clinic.
If your boss, assuming you have a job anhd are not sitting in your mother's
basement all day, came to you when they first offered shots and said "I have
been able to arrange for all of our employees to get shots at this clinic"
you would have jumped at the opportunity.
If you want to blame somebody, blame the system for their initial lack of
planning.

YOu are so full of bullshit. All their families ALSO got vaccinated.
Betcha 99% of the public wouldn't recognize them. Fuck the Shames and fuck
all the ignorant assholes who support them horning in on the vaccine.
Listen, I was at work all day. Then you come along, raving and frothing
without any kind of supporting link. Idiot.
Stop being so dense Sharx, I expect better from you. I was at work all
day, not jerking off in front of the computer. And for the record, I
did catch the news story tonight, and I agree that it was a major
fuckup. There is absolutely no way that it should have been allowed to
happen.
So? At the time it was open to all. It was probably a business
decision on their part at the time, although I agree in retrospect it
was a poor one.

Ya, I see that. I still can't help to think that this guy is a

Agreed, it was a poor decision.
If it had been a public health nurse getting a couple of
family members in for a flu shot ahead of the clinics being
open to the public, nobody would have noticed.
But when it happens with a group of celebrities like the
Calgary Flames, well, that was bound to get some attention.
Anyway, while some disciplinary action was probably in
order, I figure firing the person responsible was probably
an over reaction on the part of the people running the
organization.

The Flames farm team isn't located in Alberta, so they are
someone else's problem.

Except the Flames farm team that got the vaccine is the
Abbotsford Heat, meaning the issue here is a BC problem.
Liepert can't be the fall guy for a BC health services

What a bureaucratic response. Just because something happens OUTSIDE of
Alberta doesn't mean that one shouldn't have an opinion or a concern. BC
ALSO had a policy, at the time, restricting vaccinations to groups which did
NOT include hockey teams.
These guys contribute millions of dollars towards public health initiatives
through their charities, they donate their time off in public meetings,
functions at places like ACH meeting sick kids and so many other charitible
activities. When a hockey player breaks his leg, does he sit in Rockyview
waiting for a doctor? of course not. And so why would this be any
different? It was all done when the clinics were open, and I personally
find this to be a ridiculous topic.
In fact, the entire H1N1 issue has been so magnified by the media, yet the
fact remains that it is simply another flu strain that has to date been no
worse than any other one we have been subjected to in these parts. In fact,
if you do some research, the implications of getting the shot could
conceivably be worse than getting H1N1. In fact, Mo - can I call you Mo? -
I do not plan to get the shot nor so my family members, so you wont be
shorted at all. you can have ours. Just go to the clinic and tell them
Dave sent you.

It's hardly a bureaucratic response sharx. The Flames' farm
team in question is located in BC, and presumably got their
shots courtesy of the BC health care system.
Leipert, like him or hate him, is the minister responsible
for health care in Ablerta.
Expecting Leipert to take responsiblility for the actions of
someone in the BC health care system makes about as much
sense as me expecting you to take responsibility for an
error my accountant makes on my tax return. You do not do
my tax return, therefore, you can't be held accountable for
any mistakes that may be made on said return.
The people who have to take responsibility for what happens
in the BC health care system and the people running the BC
health care system. The people running the Alberta health
care system can only be held responsible for what involves
the Alberta health care system.
Probably not.

Indeed.

I don't get flu shots as I'm allergic to eggs.

Nor have I. I'm not planning on getting the H1N1 flu shot either as
the scuttlebutt is that if one was alive in 1950, it isn't needed, unless
one is in one of the high risk categories and I'm not.

The issue here is the perception that a group of celebrities
got special treatment at the expense of other Albertans

I agree. I think H1N1 has been blown out of proportion and
the media has done more than its fair share to build up a
public panic.
To date, in Alberta, there have been fewer than two dozen
deaths attributable to H1N1 and just under 500 people
hospitalized.
The Alberta population is three and a half million.
