I was wondering if someone knows if it's possible or permissible to
park indefinitely in front of your own house on the city street just
off the pedestrian sidewalk? I'm talking about the space between your
house and your neighbour's house.

Someone told me that you can't park for more than 48 hours on any city
street, even if it's in front of your house. But, what didn't make
any sense to me with that bylaw was that, then just as the 48 hour
period ends, can you then just take your car down the street from your
house and turn around and come back in literally a couple of minutes
and park it in the exact same spot for another 48 hours?

If someone with a definitive answer or someone with a good knowledge
of the city bylaw in this area can provide some insight into this, I'd
really appreciate it. Thanks for your time and courtesy.

There have been cars parked like that for over a year in my area, nothing
happens unless you have a neighbor who calls and complains.

The bylaw states that your vehicle must be removed from that street for a
period of 24hrs. You can then park there after that for another 72 hours.
Its not 48 hours its 72 hours. This is the RV bylaw anyway which I am told
is the same for "any" vehicle parked on city streets.

for about half yare I parked one of my cars in front w/o moving. no one
complains and it was OK

we got understanding and good neighbours, I guess. If it were ugly junker,
I don't know what reaction there could have been. I do see in the
neighbourhood sort of junker parked besides the backlane behind someone's
yard for a couple of year

In Toronto not only do you get a ticket you get your car/cars towed away
guaranteed each and every night. In the daytime you only get a ticket.

You can email the city bylaw department with specific requests and they will
cite the specific articles for you. They have been very helpful to me
regarding certian issues. I learned that it is OK to do target practice
(safely!) in your backyard with a pellet gun, but not on any public
property.

Yes they are right, but you've got to leave ie: go to work, the store or
just a tour. I'm not sure how long you need to be gone but I think it's
about an hour or so. I just move it to the other side of the street
overnight. 48 hours gets you a ticket but 72 hours and it can be legally
towed.

You got a link showing the email address for the city bylaw dept? I
looked and looked but all I can find is one for their Office of the
City Clerk in their bylaw section on their website. I doubt if that's
the one I'd be emailing to inquire about this though. Thanks.

3. How long can I park my vehicle on the street?
Vehicles on city roadways must be moved every 72 hours. Larger vehicles
have additional requirements. Please see the Traffic Bylaw No. 5590 for
further information.
