Quickest and easiest trick to try on your own is put the HD in a
ziplock bag, and then in the freezer for half an hour.
I've used this trick a few times to pull atleast SOME info off before
the drive goes completely tits up.
Yup. The old freezer trick.
Otherwise you are looking at $1500 to $15000 for data recovery.
Not sure if anyone does this locally...
You don't have to spend $15000. Also unlikely you have to spend anywhere
near $3000 unless there is actual malfunction of drive.
If there is only some small amount of defective sectors for non critical
data or just some damaged disk directory structures, I can recover data for
you.
Sorry I only deal with windows file systems despite I have the tools for
Linux... I got no actual Linux data recovery experience for Linux/Unix, Mac
despite I do know Linux/Unix
The drive must be functioning otherwise. some defective sectors are OK.
No the drive does not have to be bootable, sometimes I can even recover some
deleted files and directories but this is only best effort basis.
the % of data recovery depends on the extent of damage and whether anything
has been overwritten,
Actual person hour required varies also depend on amount of data, extent of
damage
Since I don't guarantee 100% so the cost would likely be a less than $3000
and often a lot less. My price start with $50 estimate and typically less
than $500 unless there is a lot of damage and a lot of data requiring
extensive data.
BTW, I do require up front cash deposit for new customers. I think there is
another person who does data recovery in town also but got "stung" by non
payment"
In any case the original drive does not get written You are suggested a
bring your own spare drive for storing the recovered data to keep the cost
down
Whatever you do, don't allow any writing on the drive like trying to boot
off it. Do also freeze it like others suggest.
You are in control. you tell me what the data is important and how much to
spend, so I don't try too hard and surprise you with big bill
I have done quite few jobs successfully each within 24 hour. Again if there
are a lot of actual defective sectors, it will take a lot more time and cost
more

My fee is reasonable. I will not try if the drive is not on window file
system, or is not a functionally readable drive using Ms Windows file
system. it can be non bootable, however.
Up front cash deposit and two spare drives of decent speed are required. one
for cloning the bad drive to work on, the other to store the recovered data.
this way your original drive data is not touched.
If the cloning fails, you are only charged $40.
Sorry, can't provide any fixed cost at the moment as we don't know the
extent nor nature of damage, However our service agreement lets you direct
maximum to spend and what is critical to you. to reduce risk. I will notify
you at the earliest moment on any unexpected problem.

I offer data retrieval/rescue services for hard drives
$20 to see if any data can be retrieved from the drive with ease
(quick diagnostics of spin up and readability)
Note: I may need to order in a new pcb or other parts if the drive
doesn't spin up and that may take a week or two to get in
However sometimes I can repair the pcb if it has been damaged with no
need to order in parts
There is $100 an hour charge (pre-pay only) for data retrieval on a
best effort basis when the drive is in spinning up condition
I provide a new hard drive that data that will be transfered onto
(yours to keep as a bonus to you)
If this works for you please email a return response including this
original message attached
Thanks,
