When we built PDOC and rebuilt some of the nursing documentation, we
added text boxes. The physicians stated early on that they were not
going click in every query but they may use Dragon to speak into a
text box. They felt the click boxes were time consuming. We also knew
that with our mix of ED physicians, we would have some clickers and
some who would want to speak. They really haven't complained about
our PDOC templates and we only have a few docs left using Dragon
because they like the click boxes.
However, I believe, that our success with PDOC is directly related to
an ED physician working with me to build the templates. He also did
periodic sharing of the templates with his fellow physicians during
the building. They knew what was coming.
If your docs use voice recognition options, text boxes might help
speed things up.
