Dear Sir/ Madam

The Xaverian Debating Society (XDS) of St. Xavier's College, Kolkata, in keeping with the 150 years celebration of the institute, shall be hosting The Xaverian Debating and Quizzing Festival, from 19th February to 21st February, 2009.

The festival has been organized in keeping with our institute's aim of pursuing and nurturing excellence in every field and we hope to attract teams from India and abroad. The event will have a Debate and Quiz competition running simultaneously and independent of each other, with a Total Prize Money of 5.5 Lakhs.

The Debate event will be held in two phases incorporating one round of Conventional (Policy) debating and subsequent rounds of Parliamentary '2-on-2' style formats. The quiz event will also be held in two phases incorporating four preliminary specialized quizzes and knockouts. A detailed description of the Quiz and Debate events is attached. The delegate handbook will be mailed to you all shortly.

For the debate event, every institution can register up to 2 teams, each team consisting of 2 speakers and an accompanying adjudicator and for the Quiz event, up to 2 teams can register, each consisting of 3 quizzers. However the participation of the second team is subject to the team caps being met. Kindly register by emailing us at emai...@gmail.com by February 5, 2009 with the number of teams and adjudicators your institution will be sending. No delays will be entertained in confirmation of participation. Outstation teams will be provided with standard accommodation close to the college premises.

We would request you to kindly pass on this mail to the appropriate person in charge of Quizzing, in case you or the society does not look into the quizzing in your college, in order to facilitate your college's participation.
