Hi EdLambda,
It's been a while since the last EdLambda meetup, and you'll have
noticed the infrequency of EdLambda meetups over the last two years.
I feel guilty for not putting the time and commitment into EdLambda
that it deserves of late. Life, just.. gets in the way, and time flies
by.
I took over the organisation of EdLambda from Paul Richards around
2013, and now it needs a new organiser to get it back to a monthly
meetup schedule, and fresh creative ideas.
It involves: finding a speaker, booking a location, advertising the
talk, keeping the website up to date, and promoting EdLambda to raise
awareness about our group.
Previously we've used The Outhouse pub, although this has changed
ownership a few times, and our understanding (free bookings) with them
may have been lost in the process. The last owners charged new groups
for the room upstairs, I'm not sure what the policy of the new owners
is. We've also used Skyscanner, who were great (namely, Mike Moran)
but Skyscanner changed their visitors policy and thereafter required
NDAs and lists of attendees in advance. Attending EdLambda is usually
a last minute decision for many of us, so this was a challenge to work
around.
So here's the plea:
If you'd be willing to become the EdLambda organiser going forward,
the EdLambda community would be eternally grateful. The first task
would be to find a suitable place in Edinburgy. Somewhere with decent
beer would be a popular choice. Then, identify the next EdLambda
speaker.
I recently learned that from the start of EdLambda (2010?), Paul
Richards has generously been covering the costs of the
edlambda.co.uk
domain and DNS hosting.
If you're up for it, or might consider it but wish to discuss this in
more detail offline, please email me!
Thanks,
Rob
