I want to alert (remind?) people about a URL change for the JMdictDB
database system. I'm directing this message particularly to people
with apps/sites which have links to the database and its entries, but
eventually it will affect all users.

Some time ago Stuart began shifting the code base towards using the
WSGI(*) framework rather than the more traditional CGI one used with
web servers. These two approaches are at present operating in
parallel, however we will soon be introducing some changes after which
only the WSGI set will work.

In order to have working links to the database, any URLs of the

http(s)://www.edrdg.org/jmdictdb/cgi-bin/xxxx.py?.....

pattern will need to be changed to

http(s)://www.edrdg.org/jmwsgi/xxxx.py?......

Some sites, such as the WWWJDIC server, already point to the WSGI version.

Once the change is permanent we may try and have automatic redirection
in place, or at least a message advising of the change, but obviously
it's better to change over as soon as possible.

Cheers

Well, the change I foreshadowed hasn't happened yet, but the automatic
redirection went in a few days ago and seems to be working OK. It
might as well stay there.

It would be good if sites/apps used the updated URLs when pointing to
the database,

Cheers
