As explained in the Editorial Policy
(
https://www.edrdg.org/wiki/index.php/Editorial_policy#Proper_Names)
JMdict does not contain a significant number of proper names, as they
are handled in the companion JMnedict/ENAMDICT files. Those that are
JMdict are mostly place names.
It has been observed that a number of apps and sites using JMdict do
not also offer access to the JMnedict entries, possibly because of the
size of the file. To assist users in this area, we are considering
including a subset of common and (hopefully) useful entries from the
JMnedict database in the daily JMdict release. The proposal discussion
can be seen at:
https://github.com/JMdictProject/JMdictIssues/issues/94 The number of
additional entries would be in the low thousands.
In terms of JMdict distribution formats, there are currently three
release versions: JMdict, JMdict_e and JMdict_e_examp.
(see
https://www.edrdg.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page#Current_Version_&_Downloads
for the details). It is envisaged that the extra name entries would be
included in all three of these. In addition, the basic JMdict entries
without the extra name entries would be available (JMdict_b).
Feedback on the proposal is welcome, either via this mailing list or
the issues forum.
