Sunshine!
With all this (fluffy, sideways, nonstop) snow all week, it's no surprise that the local picks are dwindling. We are noticing a drop in quality of the storage crops, (and we're sure that you have too!) We'll keep some local picks coming, while trying to negotiate for quality with quantity. We can't always guarantee they'll look good-- so please offer us your feedback when things aren't up to par-- andpardon while we work with our farmers to maximize your local offerings! We'll try to make it work. This is the in between time, when I remind myself to be grateful for all our food. We like to think about times before refrigeration and global transport when we'd be restricted to the contents of our root cellars and pantries, and it makes us grateful for the food systems we have now.
So, Now: our shift to certified organic from across the country and world begins in earnest! Produce shares are 50% local this week, while fruit shares (we sure got enough apples last week) are temperate & tropical, baby!
Also: WE NEED A VEHICLE! Our engine flooded before the holidays on our trusty '99 Subaru Outback, and we're looking for something that has similar hauling capability: large cargo space, roof rack, tow hitch. Know someone selling their wagon or mid-sized SUV? Put us in touch! Food for the people!!
