Out in the District: UESF SFUSD Strike |
Last week, our students, parents, and educators made incredible sacrifices. UESF’s strike wasn’t just a worker contract fight, but a bold declaration that investing in our educators enables them to care for our students.
We have borne witness to true community labor solidarity! It has been a true inspiration to see students and parents stand up for our educators, and for our educators to uplift the needs of SFUSD communities.
Not only does the new agreement provide family healthcare and pay equity to our SFUSD educators, it also defends our immigrant families, supports students experiencing housing insecurity, and provides relief and better working conditions for our special educators, librarians, and counselors.
I am incredibly proud of UESF for their courageous efforts and want to express my appreciation to Superintendent Maria Su and SFUSD for agreeing to a contract that centers the needs of our educators and students. When we fight, we win! |
February 9, 2026
I supported joined Longfellow Elementary School in their action and joined community members in demanding what's right for our educators. |
|
February 11, 2026
I marched alongside UESF and community members at the Veterans Memorial Hall as SFUSD and UESF returned to the bargaining table. |
|
February 12, 2026
I joined and spoke with our educators at the SF Community School about the fight for a fair contract and special education. |

I am pleased to report that the Board of Supervisors unanimously passed legislation to mitigate one of our most persistent, everyday frustrations: parking.
In District 11, concerns about parking are among the top quality-of-life issues that residents report. Before this change, San Francisco laws did not permit residents from parking their cars in their driveways. These parking rules were outdated, leading to unnecessary fines and neighborhood stress.
This ordinance brings our code to conform with the needs of the 21st century, and authorizes residents to legally park up to two vehicles in their driveway, as long as they do not encroach on the public right of way. This change is limited to standard size vehicles, not boats, trailers, recreational vehicles, mobile homes, or buses.
This common-sense change eases restrictions on outdated parking rules in private driveways to ensure peace of mind and reasonable parking places for our vehicles without impacting residents’ ability to move safely through the public right of way.
For more information on how to park safely in your driveway and resources in determining the width of your sidewalk, visit HERE. |
📄SF Treasurer Business Registration
All San Francisco businesses must renew their business registration by March 2, 2026, which is earlier than in prior years.
San Francisco has moved to a single Annual Business Registration and Tax Form with one annual deadline, replacing the prior May 31 registration renewal deadline and separate business tax filings. The new online form will guide businesses through renewing their registration and filing any business taxes.
Most small businesses with $5 million or less in gross receipts will only need to renew their registration. Visit sftreasurer.org for more information.
🏠📋San Francisco’s Concrete Building Screening Program
San Francisco has launched the Concrete Building Screening Program to help prepare for the next big earthquake. Property owners subject to the program have received a letter in the mail from the Department of Building Inspection indicating that they will need to complete an online screening form with information about their building by June 9, 2027.
This information helps the City identify whether a building is concrete or rigid-wall flexible-diaphragm and better understand citywide earthquake risk. In some cases, the initial screening may reveal that additional structural information is needed. If so, the property owner must hire a California-licensed architect, civil engineer, or structural engineer to submit more detailed information.

🚗Excelsior Residential Parking Permit
The request to extend the existing Area “V” Residential Parking Permit (RPP) to various blocks in the Excelsior
, has been initiated by residents in the area. The SFMTA is conducting an online petition for residents of the proposed RPP blocks. Petitions of support must be received from a minimum of 50% of residential units on each proposed block (defined as both sides of the street, between two cross-streets) to initiate the change. This petition allows residents to express their support or opposition to residential parking for their block.
Currently less than 20% of the total residential units in the identified area have completed the survey.
Find more detailed information about the Excelsior RPP and the survey HERE.
If you are interested in initiating an RPP request in your neighborhood, find more details about the program HERE.
🛣️Rapid K Red Lanes on Ocean Ave
The SFMTA is pausing the installation of the Red Lanes on Ocean Avenue that was originally planned to begin this month as part of the
K Ingleside Rapid Project

🚧Mission St and Geneva Ave Infrastructure Improvement Project
SFMTA contractors are working on Segment III of the project, located on Mission Street between Russia Avenue and Theresa Street. Crews continue raised crosswalk installation, traffic signal upgrades, curb ramp and bulb-out work, and bus pad installation. The bus pad work will require the contractor to saw-cut, excavate and compact the area at bus stops. Crews will then pour a concrete pad at the bus stop.
Please note, although bus pad work is expected to take 2-3 days to complete at each location, the area will remain closed to ALL vehicle traffic for approximately 10 days for proper curing. During this time, bus stops will be temporarily relocated up/down the street.
For full project updates, visit HERE. |
