Dear Neighbors,
Happy new year! As we start off 2026, I want to thank all of our community members for their advocacy and pride for our district. Together, we continue to fight for maintaining and increasing resources for our youth, families, elders, and most vulnerable populations.
Recent highlights:
-
My Tenant Protections Ordinance passed the Board of Supervisors unanimously, strengthening tenant protections against evictions caused by demolition and redevelopment.
-
I introduced a Letter of Inquiry regarding service support systems for fire victims, following the fires impacting District 11 and across the city over the holidays to identify gaps in case management services, strengthen coordination between agencies, and ensure every fire victim receives timely and effective support.
-
I introduced a resolution to affirm our city's commitment to human trafficking prevention, providing services for survivors, and dedicating January as National Human Trafficking Prevention Month in San Francisco.
-
I introduced a resolution demanding that state and federal partners initiate a third-party investigation into all ICE-related deaths nationwide and calling for a moratorium on ICE until corrective action is implemented.
Please continue to reach out to my office with questions, concerns, or comments in-person at City Hall, or via phone or email: (415) 554-6975 or Chen...@sfgov.org. For more regular updates and resources, check my Instagram: @chyannechensf.
All my best,
Supervisor Chyanne Chen |

🌟 New Trash Can by Excelsior Playground Park🌟
Working in collaboration with community members and the Department of Public Works (DPW), a new trash can was installed by Excelsior Playground on the intersection of Russia and Edinburgh to have a place for dog walkers to properly dispose of their waste. Since this trash can was added, it has seen high use and traffic. We have heard from neighbors that this receptacle needs more regular servicing, and in response our office has requested Recology to ensure proper service to this location twice a day. Signs to remind neighbors to pick up after their pets and to prevent illegal dumping are available to pick up at my office at City Hall. For guidance posting signs please visit

🚸San Jose and Geneva Traffic Improvements 🚸
We have been hearing from residents about the need for improved traffic safety and circulation at the intersection of San Jose and Geneva. Our office has asked the SFMTA to conduct a traffic analysis to identify effective solutions, especially to address the dangerous pedestrian and turning conditions during peak traffic hours. While waiting for the completion of the study, these are the immediate changes to be implemented:
-
Installation of signage warning drivers to keep clear of the intersection to deter drivers from crowding the intersection after the light change has occurred. The impact of these signs will be monitored for efficacy.
-
Restriping the crosswalk to ensure a safe and visible path of travel for pedestrians.

🚗Excelsior Residential Parking Permit
The request to extend the existing Area “V” Residential Parking Permit (RPP) to various blocks in the Excelsior
, has been initiated by residents in the area. The SFMTA is conducting an online petition for residents of the proposed RPP blocks. Petitions of support must be received from a minimum of 50% of residential units on each proposed block (defined as both sides of the street, between two cross-streets) to initiate the change. This petition allows residents to express their support or opposition to residential parking for their block.
Currently less than 20% of the total residential units in the identified area have completed the survey.
Find more detailed information about the Excelsior RPP and the survey HERE.
If you are interested in initiating an RPP request in your neighborhood, find more details about the program HERE.

🚧Mission St and Geneva Ave Infrastructure Improvement Project
SFMTA contractors are working on Segment III of the project, located on Mission Street between Russia Avenue and Theresa Street. Crews continue raised crosswalk installation, traffic signal upgrades, curb ramp and bulb-out work, and bus pad installation. The bus pad work will require the contractor to saw-cut, excavate and compact the area at bus stops. Crews will then pour a concrete pad at the bus stop.
Please note, although bus pad work is expected to take 2-3 days to complete at each location, the area will remain closed to ALL vehicle traffic for approximately 10 days for proper curing. During this time, bus stops will be temporarily relocated up/down the street.

🍃 Zero Emission Landscaping
Starting January 1, 2026, the use of gas-powered landscaping equipment by professional landscapers, property owners, business owners, and the public is prohibited per San Francisco’s Healthier, Cleaner, Quieter Communities Act. City Departments and their contractors began complying with this ordinance on July 1, 2024. Making the switch from gas-powered to electric landscaping equipment will reduce carbon emissions and air pollution as well as decrease the high noise levels associated with gas-powered equipment. More information is available at
