Now open: grants for businesses

The Community Economic Development team at the San Francisco Office of Economic & Workforce Development launched and expanded on two grant programs for small businesses. Below is a summary of the opportunities. Review the program webpages for more details before applying.

SF Shines for equipment

Deadline to apply: Fri, March 6 at 5:00PM

The SF Shines Equipment Grant supports commercially zoned storefronts anywhere in the City with up to $10,000 in funding for equipment purchases. The goal is to support long-term success and help the City's commercial corridors thrive.

 

Eligible equipment must support your business operations and align with one of the following purposes:

  • Start Up / Scale Up / Expand – To increase capacity, add new services, improve efficiency, or support growth
  • Remediation – To fix broken equipment that is limiting your ability to operate
  • Compliance – To resolve an open Notice of Violation (NOV) related to equipment in the interior of your storefront

Storefront Opportunity Grant
(with signed leases)

Deadline to apply: Fri, May 29 at 5:00PM

This program provides a grant between $50,000 - $100,000 to eligible businesses to help offset the cost of their first year of operations. Interested business owners will need to apply with an executed lease.

 

Eligible Neighborhoods: 

  • Bayview
  • Chinatown
  • Downtown
  • Mid-Market
  • Mission
  • Fillmore
  • The Port (Port-owned properties only)

Review the program details for specific boundaries and streets within the eligible neighborhoods.

This program is for new leases. The following are ineligible:

  • Past recipients of Storefront Opportunity Grant (SOG)
  • Past recipients of the Downtown Vibrancy Loan Fund
  • Businesses relocating from their current storefront within San Francisco
  • Lease renewals
