MAYOR LURIE’S STATEMENT ON FEDERAL GOVERNMENT CALLING OFF POTENTIAL FEDERAL DEPLOYMENT IN SAN FRANCISCO
SAN FRANCISCO – Mayor Daniel Lurie today released the following statement:
“Yesterday, I spoke to San Franciscans about a potential federal deployment in our city. I said then what I have said since taking office, that keeping San Franciscans safe is my top priority.
“Late last night, I received a phone call from the President of the United States. I told him the same thing I told our residents: San Francisco is on the rise. Visitors are coming back, buildings are getting leased and purchased, and workers are coming back to the office. We have work to do, and we would welcome continued partnerships with the FBI, DEA, ATF, and U.S. Attorney to get drugs and drug dealers off our streets, but having the military and militarized immigration enforcement in our city will hinder our recovery. We appreciate that the president understands that we are the global hub for technology, and when San Francisco is strong, our country is strong.
“In that conversation, the president told me clearly that he was calling off any plans for a federal deployment in San Francisco. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem reaffirmed that direction in our conversation this morning.
“My team will continue to monitor the situation closely, and our city remains prepared for any scenario.
“I am profoundly grateful to all the San Franciscans who came together over the last several days. Our city leaders have been united behind the goal of public safety. And our values have been on full display—this is the best of our city.”
Please review the message below for more details should there be a change and/or redeployment. In response to this, Mayor Lurie put forth an Executive Directive that aims to strengthen San Francisco’s support for immigrant communities.

- The Mayor’s new Executive Directive strengthens protections and coordination across city departments to keep immigrant communities informed and safe. The Department of Emergency Management (DEM) will lead on coordination (activating their Incident Coordination Call and the inter-agency Joint Information Center), and the Office of Civic Engagement and Immigrant Affairs (OCEIA) will serve as the central resource for immigrant residents.
- San Francisco’s long-standing Sanctuary City policy remains in effect. Local police (SFPD) and Sheriff’s deputies will not assist ICE, CBP, or other federal immigration enforcement agencies with civil immigration actions. *If you see SFPD officers, they are there to protect your safety – not to enforce immigration laws*
- City Services – schools, hospitals, and transportation – remain open. Even if there is a federal deployment, local public services will continue to operate normally.
- Maintained protection of peaceful protest rights – local law enforcement is specifically directed to protect First Amendment activities ensuring that community voices are heard and that protests remain safe.

SAN FRANCISCO - El alcalde Daniel Lurie emitió hoy la siguiente declaración:
"Ayer hablé con los residentes de San Francisco sobre un posible despliegue federal en
nuestra ciudad. Dije entonces lo que he dicho desde que asumí el cargo, que mantener
San Francisco seguro es mi principal prioridad.
"Anoche recibí una llamada del presidente de los Estados Unidos. Le dije lo mismo que le
dije a nuestros residentes: San Francisco está en auge. Los visitantes están regresando,
los edificios se están alquilando y vendiendo, y los trabajadores están regresando a la
oficina. Tenemos trabajo que cumplir, y estamos predispuestos a la continua colaboración
con el FBI, la DEA, la ATF y el fiscal de los EE. UU., para sacar las drogas y a los traficantes
de drogas de nuestras calles, sin embargo, tener a los militares y a los agentes de
inmigración militarizados en nuestra ciudad hará que se dificulte nuestra recuperación.
