EXCELSIOR PLANNING COLLABORATIVE COMMUNITY SUMMIT, THIS SATURDAY: The Excelsior Planning Collaborative is a group of over a dozen local nonprofits, schools, and neighborhood associations that have joined together in an 8-month strategic planning process around the needs of the Excelsior. We want to share our work and hear from you! Help plan the future of the Excelsior Neighborhood! What are your priorities? How can we make life in our neighborhood even better? If we have funding, how should we spend it? Join the Excelsior Planning Collaborative for a Community Planning Event. Free food and translation services will be provided.

EVER UPWARD MOSAIC WORKSHOP, MAY 18: Join EAG's Beautification Committee and many community volunteers at EAG's Mosaic Workshop! This Saturday, May 18, we will be holding another workshop and training any newcomers. We had a great turnout this past Saturday and look forward to seeing even more folks on the 18th. We welcome all volunteers over the age of 15 to join us.

PLAY STREETS WORKSHOP, MAY 19: San Francisco's Sunday Streets program presents a new program element in 2013: Play Streets for All. This new program draws on Sunday Streets' organizing expertise, helping community members to create a smaller versions of Sunday Streets in their own neighborhood. Sunday Streets is co-presented by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) and Livable City, the non-profit partner responsible day-to-day management of the programs. Play Streets for All is a new component of Sunday Streets, introduced in partnership with SFBeautiful and SF Mayor Edwin Lee, Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services (MONS), and SF Department Recreation & Parks. Play Streets is presenting a free workshop, participants will quickly learn how to access permitting resources available to them, and about how best to engage the community while also meeting standards for safety. PERMIT FEE WAIVERS FOR SMALL BUSINESSES THIS MONTH: The month of May is Small Business Month. Last year, D4 Supervisor Carmen Chu sponsored legislation to waive permit fees for small businesses performing specific types of facade improvements. This year, D4 Supervisor Katy Tang is continuing the tradition. If you are a San Francisco small business owner that has been thinking about installing an awning or pedestrian level lighting to your business's facade, May is the month to do your project and get your permit fees waived! MAMA ART CAFE CELEBRATES 9 YEARS, MAY 18: Join Mama Art Cafe in celebrating their 9th anniversary as a local business in the Excelsior. This Saturday, May 18, they will be celebrating with live music, art demonstrations, free coffee tastings, and delicious food. The festivities will begin in the morning and continue into the evening. This is a great way to unwind with your neighbors after attending the EPC Community Summit at the Boys and Girls Club in the morning!
