An organization notifying you of support on a project is not harassment or bullying. You should expect that if you and a few people are trying to push a major project through. Especially with no transparency and trying to change the name of an international music icon who grew up in the same neighborhood that you "represent." You have no idea what went into that project 12 years ago, and quite frankly - doesn't seem like you care. And the direction it was headed. We are in the process of pushing those efforts back at least 15 years if this proposal goes through. If you wish to know why feel free to give me a call. Or better yet get in contact with the Garcia family and better understand the amount of philanthropy that is potentially coming down the pipe. Films, Books, etc. It hasn't even begun. Has anyone pushing this proposal decided to do that? Or even cared? The answer is no, they haven't.
In addition to that, and hopefully you listen to it at last night's meeting, there are major major major challenges with that Levitts proposal. Anyone who understands the cost of programming, challenges to the park's infrastructure, challenges of fundraising, night programming, parking, security, costs, etc - would completely understand. Who's going to raise the 2 million to re open as Levitt Pavilion? Where's that coming from, the bond money? Is that what you and your associates have lined up? Or a few thousand pancake fundraisers? Please feel free to share.
And - as it was reiterated last night many many times, the levitts proposal is simply not a good fit. This coming from Jo Coffey - the founder of Friends of McLaren Park - the first activist group and many people in the audience. All of them living right by the park. But that all doesn't matter because seems like the decision has been made between your associates and rec park. And the ones making the decision, you have to ask, do they have the experience, know how, and connections to pull this off? or understand what this entails. My answer would be No.
As for our groups mobilzation efforts, it's only begun. It's been two to three weeks. And it's growing. All from the neighborhood. That being said, we are now starting to realize that this is going to the rec park commission in July. Of course, there was no mention of that at last nights meeting.
Thanks for that.
Anyways, give us the name of your "group" that supports the project and the contact info, and we'll happily update the
change.org account. Thank You.
Good Night
ps - who do i talk to about co-chairing the next McLaren Park Collaborative meeting?
