FYI

Crews install a new catch-basin at the Mission St. and Persian Ave. intersection

October 01, 2025

Greetings Mission Street and Geneva Avenue Neighbor,

Thank you for your interest in the Mission Street and Geneva Avenue Infrastructure Improvement Project.

If you're receiving this e-update as a forward from one of your neighbors, please feel free to sign-up HERE so that we can add you to our distribution list.

Project Update

The contractor continues electrical conduit work on Mission Street (Segment III).

Crews also continue catch-basin sewer work on Segment III which is located on Mission Street between Russia Avenue and Theresa Street.

In early October, the contractor will start bus pad work in Segment III. The bus pad work will require the contractor saw-cut and excavate the pavement at bus stops. Crews will then pour a concrete pad at the bus stop. Please note, although the bus pad work is expected to take 2 days to complete at each location, the area will remain closed to ALL vehicle traffic for approximately 10 days. This will allow the concrete bus pad enough time to properly cure before supporting the weight of vehicles. During this time, bus stops will be temporarily moved up/down the street.

Next week, the contractor is scheduled to start bulb-out/curb ramp construction on Mission Street. Crews will work on the Russia Ave. to Leo St. segment.

During Construction

Street parking may be impacted while construction occurs on a block. In some cases, depending on the phase of work, street parking may not be possible on part of the adjacent block as we taper traffic lanes in order to accommodate the necessary work zone. Crews may also detour traffic as needed to allow for a safe work zone. We kindly ask that motorists please plan ahead and allow a few extra minutes of travel time during construction hours.

Please see the posted "no parking" barricade signs for exact work hours, days, and locations. Parking restrictions may vary per block depending on the scope of work.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we complete these safety and infrastructure improvements on Geneva Avenue and Mission Street.

Project Information

S.F. Public Works has partnered with the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) to complete infrastructure and safety improvements on Geneva Avenue from Mission Street to Prague Street and Mission Street between Geneva Avenue and Trumbull Street.

This scope of work will include sewer main replacement and rehabilitation work, curb ramp and pedestrian bulb-out installation, transit bulb-outs, Auxiliary Water Supply System (AWSS) settlement monitoring work, electrical and traffic signal upgrades, concrete street base replacement work (concrete roadwork) and pavement renovation.

Construction began in November 2022, with overall completion of the project expected in February 2026. In order to minimize any impacts associated with construction, and to ensure the entire limits aren’t under construction for the 3-year duration, this project will be completed in segments. A completion timeline has been placed on each segment to minimize the time it is under construction. There will be an overlap in segments as work is completed in one segment and starts on the next one. The segments are as follows:

Segment I

Geneva Avenue (Mission St. to Prague St.)

(Approximately 11 months / November 2022 – November 2023)

Segment II

Mission Street (Geneva Ave. to Russia Ave.)

(Approximately 10 months / October 2023 – August 2024)

Segment IV

Mission Street (Theresa St. to Trumbull St./ Hwy 280 overpass)

(Approximately 5 months / August 2024 – January 2025)

Segment III

Mission Street (Russia Ave. to Theresa St.)

(Approximately 11 months / January 2025 – February 2026)

Sewer service will not be interrupted during replacement of the sewer main. Please continue to use your household/business plumbing per the usual.
